Student Welfare Officer

Fowey River Academy, part of Truro and Penwith Academy Trust, is seeking to appoint a caring, committed and proactive Student Welfare Officer to join our dedicated pastoral team.

At Fowey River Academy, we are committed to ensuring that every student feels safe, valued, supported and ready to learn. The Student Welfare Officer will play a key role in promoting students’ personal, social and emotional development, identifying and removing barriers to learning, and providing targeted support and intervention.

Working closely with students, families, tutors, teachers, SEND staff, Heads of Faculty and external agencies, you will support vulnerable and disadvantaged students in our Learning Support Hub, with a particular focus on attendance, wellbeing, behaviour and engagement. You will use relevant information and data to identify students requiring additional support, plan and evaluate interventions, and adapt provision in response to student progress.

The role will also involve supporting students at key transition points, contributing to a calm and well-ordered environment, and promoting high expectations, positive relationships and a culture where every student is ready to learn.

You will develop positive relationships with parents and carers, keeping them informed about their child’s welfare, attendance and progress, and working collaboratively with external agencies to provide appropriate support. You will also contribute to the wider pastoral life of the Academy.

You will be a compassionate, resilient and approachable professional who is passionate about improving outcomes for young people. You will have the ability to build positive relationships with students and families, including those experiencing complex or challenging circumstances.

You will be highly organised, with excellent communication skills and the ability to manage a varied caseload, maintain accurate records and work effectively with colleagues and external agencies.

Experience of working with young people in a pastoral, welfare, attendance, safeguarding, education, health or social care setting would be advantageous. You will have a sound understanding of the factors that can affect student wellbeing, attendance and engagement, and a commitment to keeping up to date with developments in student wellbeing and mental health.
