Student Services Teacher - PELICAN LAKE
Pelican Lake School caters to students in grades 7 through 12 and is located on the Pelican Lake First Nation, approximately 175 km northeast of North Battleford, SK. Our school is beautifully situated near Chitek Lake, providing access to ATV trails and several other nearby lakes. Housing apartments are conveniently positioned next to the school. We take pride in offering an exceptional Land-based Program.
Pelican Lake First Nation is currently looking for an SST-Student Services Teacher.
Reports to: Principal/Director of Education
Key Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with classroom teachers, school psychologists, specialists in learning disabilities, speech and hearing professionals, and social workers to develop a unified approach to enhance student abilities.
• Design and create courses and subjects that comply with policy and curriculum standards.
• Incorporate First Nations curriculum and learning approaches into all educational programs.
• Set learning objectives for each student, assess their progress, and maintain precise records of their evaluations.
• Keep parents informed about their children's progress and involve them in supporting behavior management and home activities that reinforce classroom learning.
• Supervise and mentor teaching assistants.
• Develop academic and social/life skills programming for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), learning disabilities, and other special needs, within a supportive and flexible learning environment.
• Teach a small group of special needs students in both classroom and alternate settings.
• Create lesson plans and conduct assessments.
• Integrate social and life skills into daily educational experiences.
• Review psycho-educational reports and formulate Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
• Show proficiency with Smartboards and adaptive technologies for iPads and laptops.
• Communicate effectively and promptly with the Education Director, Principal, fellow teachers, and parents of students.
• Attend staff meetings, oversee duties, and assist with after-school extracurricular activities.
• Engage in community programs that strengthen connections between the school and the wider community.
• Write proposals for specialized educational initiatives.
• Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor of Education Degree
• Valid Saskatchewan Teaching Certificate (STF)
• Special Education Certificate
• Experience and knowledge in working with students who have Special Needs and Learning Disabilities
• Cultural Competency
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications
• A recent Vulnerable Sector Criminal Reference check must be submitted.
