About This Role

The position of Psychology Teacher at Rome International School (RIS) is a vital role within the Middle High School (MHS) department, aimed at incorporating IBDP Psychology into the IGCSE and DP curriculum. The successful applicant will foster an inspiring educational environment, delivering captivating lessons that motivate students to achieve their fullest potential. They will possess extensive knowledge of the subject matter and a genuine passion for teaching psychology in an innovative and engaging manner. Moreover, the candidate will actively contribute to the broader school community by participating in extracurricular activities and collaborating with colleagues in the department.

TEACHING AND LEARNING:

  • Deliver the internationally adapted Cambridge IGCSE and IBDP HL and SL Psychology curriculum. The role may also involve teaching another subject area that aligns with the candidate’s qualifications and expertise.
  • Cultivate curiosity, interest, and enjoyment in Psychology among students.
  • Provide prompt feedback on student assessments, adhering to departmental marking guidelines.
  • Customize learning experiences to cater to the diverse needs of students, implementing strategies for EAL and SEN.
  • Promote the understanding and application of Psychology in wider contexts.
  • Assign homework that aligns with policy and student workload expectations.
  • Engage in departmental and MHSSLT classroom observations.
  • Execute report writing and internal grading responsibilities as needed.

DEPARTMENTAL:

  • Participate in extracurricular initiatives and share effective practices within the department.
  • Complete subject-specific tasks as directed by the Head of Department.
  • Attend departmental meetings and moderation sessions as required.
  • Adhere to departmental policies and curricular plans.

PASTORAL AND EXTRA-CURRICULAR:

  • Assume pastoral responsibilities as a form tutor.
  • Monitor student behavior in classrooms and throughout the school, upholding school policies.
  • Contribute to extracurricular and sports programs as assigned.
  • Prioritize health and safety, ensuring compliance with school regulations.

OTHER DUTIES:

  • Carry out cover duties and examination supervision as necessary.
  • Fulfill break, lunch, and chaperone responsibilities as assigned by the MHS Principal.
  • Participate in staff meetings, parent evenings, and professional development opportunities.
  • Engage in the RIS Professional Growth Plan and performance review process.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Hold a relevant teaching degree or certification.
  • Have a minimum of three years of teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching IB Psychology at SL or HL levels.
  • Exhibit a passion for teaching and a commitment to the holistic development of students.
  • Uphold professionalism and prioritize the well-being of students.
  • Actively engage in extracurricular activities.
  • Respect the diversity present within the school community.
  • Previous experience with students for whom English is a second language is preferred.
  • Maintain a positive and solution-focused approach to work.
  • Possess an enhanced DBS disclosure.
