JOB DESCRIPTION

Role Purpose

To educate students in Year 1 through Year 6 by designing and implementing a thorough educational program that encourages literacy, numeracy, and the physical, emotional, intellectual, and social growth of students, all in accordance with school policies and guidelines.

Accountability

The Head of Primary is responsible for all aspects related to this position.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for the designated students in the assigned homeroom class.

Duties

- Actively support and promote the BCIS Mission, Vision, and Values.

- Align instructional strategies with the BCIS Learning Principles within the primary learning environment.

- Collaborate with EAL mainstream program teachers regarding student graduation and transitions into mainstream classes.

- Implement all relevant school policies regarding staff and students.

Key Responsibilities

Learning and Teaching

- Create an age-appropriate learning environment that reflects the BCIS Learning Principles.

- Develop engaging lessons tailored to the diverse needs of each class, aligned with the agreed curriculum that adheres to the BCIS Learning Principles and best practices for the designated age group.

- Teach a comprehensive array of subjects following the English National Curriculum, including English (Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening, Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation), Maths, Science, Computing, Art, History, Geography, and PSHE.

- Differentiate lessons to ensure that all students are learning at suitable levels.

- Plan effectively for additional adults in the classroom and oversee their responsibilities.

- Collaborate with EAL and Learning Support/SEN teachers to enhance students’ learning experiences.

- Offer guidance and support to students on educational and social matters.

- Address the social and pastoral needs of students.

- Keep accurate records of any pastoral issues in the class.

- Provide constructive feedback and assess all work according to the Marking Policy.

- Regularly evaluate students’ learning and progress in line with school protocols.

- Utilize assessment data to inform lesson planning.

- Maintain current assessment files, ensuring that student work examples are well organized.

- Prepare reports on student performance, effort, and progress at designated times as specified in the Reporting Policy.

- Discuss student progress and any issues with parents and administrators.

- Prepare for and engage in parent-teacher consultations.

- Update student records regarding achievement, effort, and progress each term to effectively track student development.

- Encourage productive work habits and maintain effective classroom control, organization, and management in accordance with school policies.

- Regularly refresh displays within and outside the classroom per the Display Policy.

- Assign suitable homework following the School’s homework policy.

Communication

- Meet regularly with fellow primary teachers to engage in discussions, feedback, and planning.

- Effectively communicate and collaborate with EAL mainstream teachers to ensure smooth transitions between the immersion program and mainstream classes.

- Work together with Learning Support/SEN teachers.

- Coordinate with Early Years Foundation Stage or Secondary School teachers as needed regarding student transitions.

- Foster positive relationships between home and school.

- Maintain clear, consistent, and positive communication with parents about their child's progress, utilizing written, in-person, and electronic methods.

- Provide updates on student progress during parent consultation meetings and in end-of-year reports.

- Be available for parents at mutually agreed times as necessary.

Professional Development

- Participate in the school, department, and individual review processes (School Self-Evaluation).

- Pursue professional development opportunities to remain current with best practices in the UK and abroad.

- Attend meetings, workshops, and courses that align with the School Improvement Plan.

- Engage in vertical meetings with secondary staff.

- Offer relevant CPD/professional learning to colleagues as needed.

General Duties

- Assist in organizing and running extracurricular activities, and participate in school events, productions, and sports as required.

- Take responsibility for Health and Safety matters in your teaching area, reporting any hazards and ensuring that appropriate safety measures are in place for students.

- Adhere to the Child Protection and Safeguarding policy at all times.

- Address all behavioral issues according to the BCIS Behaviour Policy.

- Supervise designated areas of the school as specified in the Supervision Duty Rota.

- Serve as a role model for students while ensuring compliance with the Staff Code of Conduct.

- Carry out other related duties as assigned by the Academic Leadership Team (ALT).
