About This Role

Epsom College in Malaysia is looking to hire a Physical Education Teacher to start in August 2025.

The Physical Education & Sports department is on the lookout for an enthusiastic and skilled PE teacher to join our growing and vibrant team. This role will entail designing and conducting lessons in PE, Games, and swimming, training teams, and supporting fixtures and large tournaments. Additionally, the successful candidate will have the chance to contribute to our extensive range of co-curricular clubs that operate before and after school. There will also be opportunities to develop and lead a sports specialism in line with the evolving needs of the department.

Students engage in scheduled PE lessons throughout the week, where they can explore new activities, acquire new skills, and promote fitness and well-being. Beyond the school hours, there are numerous enrichment opportunities, with both sports teams and recreational activities occurring weekly.

The PE department operates under the leadership of the Director of Sports, who manages all aspects of the PE and sports program, both curricular and enrichment-focused. As a member of this department, you will join a team comprising seven PE staff and four sports coaches. Epsom College Malaysia seeks a fully qualified and experienced Physical Education teacher to deliver a diverse and comprehensive sports curriculum across all Key Stages.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for teaching across the school, coaching teams, participating in fixtures locally, in Kuala Lumpur, and internationally, mentoring students, and sharing professional practices.

Academic Responsibilities

- Curriculum Delivery: Implement the PE curriculum for all year groups, with experience in both PE and academic PE, ensuring a consistent, high-quality learning experience for students throughout the school.
- Multi-Sport Expertise: Exhibit exceptional skill and coaching ability in a variety of sports, including but not limited to Basketball, Volleyball, Netball, Badminton, Hockey, Football, Cricket, Swimming, and (Touch) Rugby. You will be expected to effectively engage and coach across various sports within the school's comprehensive sports program.
- Teaching Excellence: Show teaching excellence by employing innovative, student-centered teaching methods that foster a passion for PE, sports, and physical activity.
- Student Engagement: Actively involve students in sports activities, promoting participation, tactical awareness, skill development, and commitment to a healthy, active lifestyle.
- Inclusive Teaching: Create an inclusive learning environment that supports students of varying abilities, ensuring every student has the chance to succeed and enjoy sports.
- Collaboration: Work collaboratively with colleagues in the PE department and across the school to share best practices, contribute to curriculum development, and assist in the planning and execution of sports events.
- Classroom Management: Maintain good order and discipline among all pupils in line with the school’s behavior policy, and keep an organized and tidy workspace.
- Assessment and Progress Tracking: Implement effective assessment strategies and utilize tracking tools to monitor and evaluate student progress in sports, providing constructive feedback to aid their development.
- Co-curricular Involvement: Contribute to co-curricular sports activities, including coaching and organizing teams for competitions, enhancing the overall sports culture within the school. Actively participate in Saturday Sports activities, especially during weekends without fixtures, focusing on team/squad development. This may involve organizing internal sporting tournaments or leading training sessions.
- Health and Safety: Prioritize the safety and well-being of students during PE and sports activities, adhering to safety protocols and ensuring a secure environment.
- Continuous Professional Development: Engage in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) opportunities to stay informed about current trends, coaching techniques, and advancements in sports education.
- Parent Communication: Communicate effectively with parents, providing updates on students' progress and upcoming sports events, while fostering positive engagement in their children's sports education. Write thorough reports on students' performance, offering insights into their achievements and areas for improvement, aligned with current teaching practices and educational innovations.
- Fixtures: Participate in midweek and occasional Saturday fixtures, demonstrating commitment to supporting and coaching students during sports competitions outside regular school hours.
- Flexibility: Show flexibility by covering lessons within the department during planned staff absences and emergencies, and adapt to coaching teams beyond the usual scope as per the department's evolving demands and specific sporting events.
- Sporting Residential Involvement: Attend sporting residential events when required, actively participating in and supervising sports-related activities, including overnight stays when necessary to ensure students' well-being during extended sports programs.
- Professional Duties and Responsibilities: Fulfill professional duties and responsibilities as outlined by the school, contributing to whole school events to promote a collaborative and cohesive school community.
- Meetings: Attend regular departmental meetings to assist in curriculum planning and improvement initiatives.

Essential Skills and Abilities

- A strong honours degree
- An accredited teaching qualification
- Evidence of being or having the potential to be an excellent teacher
- Native-level English proficiency in all forms of communication
- The ability to inspire and motivate children
- A willingness to significantly contribute to the co-curricular life of the school
- Strong interpersonal skills to relate well to colleagues, children, and parents
- Approachability, accessibility, and flexibility
- High-level organization and communication skills
- Sympathy with the values and needs of working in a boarding environment

Desirable Criteria

- A specialization in Basketball or Swimming
- Experience working in a boarding school
- Experience teaching in Pre-Prep, Prep, and Senior School settings
- High competence in a range of traditional British sports
- Coaching and/or officiating qualifications in at least one major sport
