The Opportunity:
For the 2026-27 academic year, we seek a progressive and values-driven Kindergarten Classroom Teacher to become part of our Junior School on a full-time, 8-month contract to fill a leave. The successful candidate will possess a genuine passion for empowering students to reach their full potential as they grow into learners and leaders. They should demonstrate robust pedagogical abilities, social-emotional learning techniques, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Our Kindergarten classrooms are co-taught by two educators, with additional support available across all specialist classes. The Junior Kindergarten class consists of 14-16 students. This position is for an immediate opening with a projected start date of August 2026.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Cultivate a classroom atmosphere that promotes learning and personal growth through the lens of social-emotional learning.
- Encourage students to acquire the skills, attitudes, and knowledge essential for a strong educational foundation, customized to each student's abilities and needs.
- Foster positive relationships with parents, faculty, and other staff members.
- Ensure the curriculum aligns with IB PYP and Ministry of Education standards, incorporating differentiation.
- Develop inquiry programs, unit plans, and lesson plans that encompass all elements of the IB PYP curriculum, with a focus on SEL, DEI, and inquiry-based learning.
- Keep accurate records as mandated by the Ministry, IBO, and school policies.
- Maintain regular communication with students, colleagues, and parents about student progress, including formal reports and various conferences.
- Stay updated on best educational practices through professional reading, workshops, and other development opportunities.
- Actively engage in faculty and departmental meetings while collaborating with teams to plan, assess, and adapt the written curriculum.
- Participate in and take responsibility for co-curricular activities.
Candidate Profile:
- A Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution.
- Certification from the Ontario College of Teachers or an equivalent degree with Primary/Junior qualifications.
- Experience teaching kindergarten is preferred.
- A minimum of three years of classroom teaching experience is preferred.
- Familiarity with the IB framework, especially the PYP, is a considerable advantage.
- Proficient in curriculum development and assessment practices suited to the developmental stages of students.
- A relational educator who incorporates Social-Emotional Learning and emotional coaching in their teaching approach.
- Knowledgeable in relevant technology and capable of operating in a laptop and online environment.
- Skilled in delivering educational programs online and effective at electronic communication with students, parents, colleagues, and the broader community.

Target Hiring Range:
Placement on the Branksome Hall Faculty Salary Grid is determined by years of relevant teaching experience, educational qualifications, and Additional Qualifications (AQs). The salary grid ranges from $70,903.08 – $101,270.67 for up to 6 years of applicable experience and $101,615.33 – $134,998.82 for more than 6 years of applicable experience.
