About This Role

Bella Bella Community School Society is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Math Teacher to join our high school team. The successful candidate will be responsible for instructing students in grades 8–12, covering courses such as Workplace Math 10–12, Foundations of Mathematics and Pre-Calculus 10, and Pre-Calculus 11–12. We are looking for a supportive individual with strong classroom management skills who is committed to fostering academic success in mathematics and building meaningful relationships with students. This role also involves contributing to the school’s overall objectives and collaborating with fellow educators in planning.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop, organize, and deliver engaging and suitable math instructional programs.
- Create a classroom environment that encourages critical thinking, curiosity, and enthusiasm for mathematics.
- Implement comprehensive assessments and provide feedback to enhance student learning.
- Establish a classroom culture that values participation, perseverance, and problem-solving.
- Adapt teaching strategies to cater to various learning needs and styles.
- Support students in acquiring essential skills in numeracy, reasoning, and communication.
- Collaborate with the support team in the development of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) as necessary.
- Monitor and assess student progress while providing timely, constructive feedback.
- Work with colleagues to ensure alignment of curriculum and instructional methods.
- Effectively utilize technology, including Google Classroom and Microsoft 365.
- Participate in school initiatives and contribute to a positive school atmosphere.
- Additional responsibilities may be assigned within the same job scope.

Required Skills and Abilities:
- In-depth understanding of the BC Ministry of Education's Mathematics curriculum and assessment methods.
- Flexibility in teaching approaches to adapt to changing classroom and school environments.
- Competence in using digital tools to enhance collaborative learning experiences.
- Commitment to working closely with students, colleagues, families, and community members.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, focusing on inclusivity and student engagement.
- Interest in taking part in extracurricular activities and contributing to the wider school community.
- Cultural awareness and a willingness to learn about and incorporate Heiltsuk culture and values.
- Readiness to support and engage with the SEAS (Supporting Emerging Aboriginal Stewards) program and other community learning initiatives.
- Proficient in managing and using online learning platforms, such as IXL, to assist student learning and track progress.

Required Education, Experience, Certifications, and Licenses:
- A valid BC Teaching Certificate issued by the Teacher Regulation Branch of British Columbia.
- Experience and/or expertise in teaching high school mathematics (Grades 8–12).
- A satisfactory Criminal Record Check (vulnerable sector).
- Experience in Indigenous education settings is preferred.
- Understanding and appreciation of Indigenous culture, history, and ways of knowing.
