Full Time Elementary Teacher (Grades 4 - 7)
About This Role
The Az-Zahraa Islamic Academy (AZIA) is a private educational establishment serving students from Junior Kindergarten through Grade 7, built upon the foundations and teachings of the Islamic faith. Our curriculum is carefully crafted to align with British Columbia’s redesigned educational framework, ensuring a thorough learning experience. AZIA is committed to providing our growing community with (i) a robust foundation of Islamic values that nurture and strengthen the faith of our students in both thought and action, (ii) an outstanding educational experience, and (iii) the skills needed for effective and confident participation in society.
Our mission is to develop individuals who are not only strong but also actively engaged in their communities, instilling in them Islamic wisdom, critical thinking, and practices that promote meaningful endeavors in spiritual, intellectual, artistic, technological, athletic, and service-oriented areas. We strive to ensure that every student feels valued and adequately challenged. Our focus is on empowering students to become courageous, empathetic, and insightful thinkers and leaders, aware of the impact they can have on their community and beyond. We create an environment characterized by respect, care, and support that encourages independence, resilience, mindfulness, and creativity across all age groups.
We are currently inviting applications from compassionate individuals who are sensitive to the needs of children and eager to become part of a dynamic team. Required qualifications include a BC Professional Teacher Certification from the BC Teacher Regulation Office, a solid grasp of pedagogy including effective instructional strategies, literacy and numeracy teaching theories, and child development. Familiarity with current curriculum trends, particularly in early reading and numeracy instruction, is essential. A willingness to participate in extracurricular activities is also preferred. Additionally, experience with ESL or struggling students is a plus, as is a background in Islam.
