About This Role

The Dene Tha' Community School, located in Chateh, Alberta, is seeking dedicated educators to join our team. Our school serves approximately 170 students from Head Start through Grade 12 in Northern Alberta. The community benefits from cell service and high-speed internet and is conveniently positioned just one hour from the Town of High Level via a paved highway.

High Level features a variety of businesses, including Tim Horton's, Subway, A&W, KFC, Boston Pizza, Pizza Hut, DQ, Canadian Tire, and Home Hardware, along with numerous restaurants, grocery stores, hotels, and golf courses. Park Plaza also houses Denny's, Starbucks, Parmasave, and an arcade. Additionally, Rainbow Lake is only a 25-minute drive away, offering motels, dining establishments, and golf facilities.

We strongly encourage applications from teachers of Aboriginal descent, those with experience in First Nations schools, and recent graduates. Chateh is situated about 100 km west of High Level, AB.   • Shop/Design Technology (resistant materials) Teacher

Additional Qualifications Include:

  • An understanding of First Nations culture to incorporate into the curriculum
  • Experience with students who have special needs and the ability to customize programs for various learning styles
  • Strong classroom management and supervision capabilities
  • A demonstration of empathy, adaptability, and professional ethics
  • A commitment to student learning with the ability to modify and apply instructional strategies
  • A willingness to participate in extracurricular activities
  • Proficiency in using SmartBoards, computers, and other technologies
  • Readiness to learn, teach, and assess students within comprehensive literacy and numeracy programs such as WJ, Essential Skills, Mathletics, Empower Reading, and others
  • A background in arts, music, and land-based outdoor programming
  • Familiarity with Power School, Teacher Pro, and land-based programming is a plus
