About the Role

Brighton College (Singapore) is seeking an inspirational Teacher of English to play a leading role in delivering a world‑class English curriculum across the Senior School from August 2026. This appointment provides a pivotal opportunity to shape, elevate and champion the College’s English provision as Brighton College (Singapore) continues its evolution from a first‑class Prep School into one of the region’s leading all‑through schools, offering education from Pre‑Nursery to Year 13.

What you will be doing

  • Demonstrate the experience and ability to teach English Language and Literature across all relevant Key Stages (including IGCSE/GCSE and A-level).
  • Take responsibility for the teaching, progress and attainment of timetabled pupils in English in Years 7 to 12 from August 2026, and for other senior year groups in the following years.
  • Take responsibility for the teaching, progress and attainment of timetabled pupils in English Language Support (ELS) in Years 7 to 10.
  • Work collaboratively on aspects of Key Stage 3, 4 and 5 curriculum planning and delivery.
  • Work collaboratively on aspects of assessment, tracking and reporting for English.
  • Promote excellence, creativity and innovation in all areas of the English curriculum.
  • Promote a culture of reading through initiatives such as reading lists, book clubs, author visits, competitions and literary events.
  • Act as an outstanding classroom practitioner, with the ability to lead by example.
  • Devise and implement rigorous self-evaluation processes.
  • Support pupils during key transition points, particularly Year 6–7 and Year 11–12, ensuring continuity in literacy and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrate the experience and expertise needed to support pupils aspiring for Literature places at top universities, including Oxford and Cambridge and other world-class universities.
  • Work closely with the Heads of EAL and AEN to develop pathways for pupils requiring additional support.
  • Contribute to the highest standards of safeguarding and to the school’s pastoral system, acting as a tutor for a Senior School year group.
  • Contribute to the co-curricular life of the school.
  • Undertake any other reasonable management requests in support of the school’s mission, vision, and values.

Who we are looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mandarin with PGCE or equivalent.
  • The successful candidate for this challenging and rewarding position will have at least two years’ teaching Mandarin as First language, Mandarin as a second language and Mandarin as a foreign language with international schools.
  • The successful candidate will have the ability to teach spoken and written Chinese to children of all nationalities, ranging from beginners to native speakers.
  • IGCSE teaching experience is essential. A-Level teaching experience is preferred.
  • Whole-school teaching experience is highly valued and preferred for candidates.
  • International school experience (preferred).
