About This Role

Duties:

A. Knowledge and Understanding:

• Have an in-depth understanding of the National Curriculum, IGCSE, and IBDP.

• Possess a solid command of the subject matter and its underlying concepts.

• Address subject-related questions from students with confidence, being mindful of common misconceptions and errors in their areas of expertise.

• Acquaint oneself with all curriculum and assessment standards for secondary education.

B. Planning and Setting Expectations:

• Set clear educational goals, lesson content, structures, and sequences that cater to both the subject and the students' needs.

• Establish high, challenging expectations for student learning and participation, creating specific targets that build on prior achievements and experiences.

• Identify students with special educational needs, as well as those who are gifted and talented, and seek assistance to provide targeted support. Implement and maintain records for Individual Education Plans (IEPs) as necessary.

C. Teaching and Managing Student Learning:

• Deliver lessons effectively to whole classes, groups, and individuals, achieving teaching goals, maintaining momentum, and maximizing instructional time.

• Employ teaching strategies that engage students, fostering intellectual curiosity through effective questioning, feedback, clear presentations, and suitable resource utilization.

• Uphold high standards of student behavior by establishing discipline through focused teaching and nurturing positive, productive relationships.

• Promote positive behavior, enhance self-esteem, and encourage independent learning among students to support their educational growth in an ICT-focused environment.

D. Assessment and Evaluation:

• Assess the effectiveness of learning objectives and use these evaluations to guide future teaching methods.

• Review and supervise students' classwork and homework, providing constructive oral and written feedback while setting targets for improvement.

• Understand the expectations placed on students concerning the National Curriculum, KS4, and KS5 when applicable.

E. Relations with Parents and the Wider Community:

• Know how to prepare and deliver informative reports to parents.

• Recognize that learning extends beyond the classroom and offer opportunities for students to link their education to real-world situations.

• Appreciate the significance of collaborating with external organizations.

F. Managing Own Performance and Development:

• Acknowledge the importance of taking charge of personal professional growth and staying informed about advancements in pedagogy and subject knowledge.

• Understand professional responsibilities related to school policies, guidelines, and practices.

• Act as a positive role model for students regarding presentation and personal conduct.

• Reflect critically on personal teaching practices and use insights for enhancement.

G. Managing and Developing Staff and Other Adults:

• Cultivate productive working relationships with colleagues, including co-teachers, specialists, and support staff.

H. Managing Resources:

• Choose and effectively use books, equipment, ICT, and other educational materials that aid in achieving teaching objectives.

Skills/Qualifications:

• Hold a Bachelor’s Degree along with a teaching certificate or license, showcasing excellent subject knowledge.

• Have a minimum of 2 years of full-time teaching experience in an educational environment.

• Embrace the values of Yew Chung.

• Exhibit a passion for teaching students.

• Demonstrate a rigorous approach to instructing various year levels.

• Show a commitment to teamwork.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
