Role Statement

The Primary Visual Arts Specialist reports to the Head of Primary and works collaboratively with the Deputy Heads of Primary to deliver an outstanding Visual Arts programme to primary students within the school. This role involves close liaison with Primary Visual Arts and the Secondary Visual Arts teaching staff.

 

Essential Criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications appropriate to the specialisation of Visual Arts teaching.
  • Experienced and successful Primary Visual Arts teacher.
  • Experience in and understanding of the ACARA The Arts curriculum for Years R-6.
  • A strong knowledge of Visual Arts and developed understanding of the visual arts practice in the Australian context.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – knowing how to plan, make decisions and interact effectively with professional colleagues, participate in curriculum development, engage in professional reading and actively seek new classroom pedagogies.
  • Demonstrated ability to create highly engaged visual arts experiences based on individual needs and experience in evaluating such programmes.
  • Highly developed technology skills and a desire to learn more.
  • A passionate, knowledgeable and proactive teacher with a commitment to wellbeing practices and positive psychology in education (i.e., PROSPER).

Responsibilities:

  • The Primary Visual Arts teacher will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
  • Demonstrating commitment to student wellbeing.
  • Planning, implementation and teaching of the Visual Arts programme for the primary years.
  • Teaching sequentially organised visual arts skills; and planning experiences appropriate to students’ development. Wherever possible and appropriate, cross curricular links should be made with school’s program.
  • Using a wide range of teaching strategies to cater for individual differences and learning styles.
  • Providing artistic learning experiences which incorporate technologies and innovative practices.
  • Designing and demonstrating specialised instruction strategies and techniques.
  • Engaging students in art experiences so that students learn to work with ideas, develop artistic skills and respond to art works by others.
  • Using a range of assessment strategies which are fair, inclusive and appropriate.
  • Promoting and celebrating Primary art through school displays and art exhibitions.
  • Working with the Head of Primary and other members of the Visual Arts team in overseeing visual arts equipment and supply ordering.
  • Behaves ethically, reflects positivity, demonstrates a growth mindset and contributes to the school’s ethos and community life.
  • Teaching duties as directed by the Head of Primary.
  • Any other duties as may be required by the Head of School.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
