Job Description: MYP / MRC English Teacher

Reports to: Head of Department - English

Location: Westlink International School, Hanoi

Position Type: Full-time

Position Overview

The MYP / MRC English Teacher delivers high-quality, engaging English instruction within both the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the MOET Replacement Curriculum (MRC). The teacher supports students in developing strong literacy skills, critical thinking, intercultural understanding, and the Learner Profile attributes. As part of Westlink’s commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, the teacher contributes actively to curriculum development, collaborative planning, and wider school life.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Teaching & Learning

  • Plan and teach English Language & Literature and/or English Language Acquisition classes within the MYP framework.
  • Deliver well-structured English lessons aligned with MYP aims, concepts, global contexts, and assessment criteria.
  • Teach English within the MRC pathway, ensuring alignment with school standards that replace MOET requirements.
  • Differentiating instruction to meet diverse linguistic and academic needs across the MYP and MRC pathways.
  • Use a range of formative and summative assessment strategies to monitor progress and inform instruction.
  • Foster student agency, inquiry, and collaborative learning through varied pedagogical approaches.
  • Integrate Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills and academic language development into daily practice.

Curriculum & Assessment

  • Contribute to unit planning, revision, and vertical alignment of English curriculum across MYP and MRC.
  • Develop high-quality tasks, rubrics, and assessment opportunities consistent with programme expectations.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and contribute to reporting processes.
  • Participate in assessment moderation and standardisation to ensure fairness and consistency.

Student Support & Wellbeing

  • Build positive relationships with students, encouraging confidence, resilience, and responsible decision-making.
  • Provide pastoral care as a homeroom/advisory teacher, promoting wellbeing and community.
  • Offer additional support for students needing literacy or language reinforcement, including those in the MRC pathway.
  • Communicate regularly and professionally with parents about student progress and support strategies.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Engage in professional learning, IB training, and school improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to strengthen cross-curricular connections and high-quality learning experiences.
  • Uphold Westlink’s policies, safeguarding standards, and code of conduct at all times.
  • Contribute to ongoing improvement in teaching, assessment, and student achievement.

Wider School Contributions

  • Participate in school events, celebrations, productions, and community-building activities.
  • Lead or support co-curricular activities (CCAs), including clubs, reading programmes, debate, or public speaking.
  • Support service learning, student leadership, and international-mindedness initiatives.
  • Represent the English and MYP departments in parent engagement activities and school events.
  • Contribute to alignment between MYP, MRC, bilingual pathways, and future high school offerings.

Qualifications and Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, Applied Linguistics, or a related field.
  • Recognised teaching qualification.
  • Experience teaching middle school or secondary English.
  • Strong understanding of inquiry-based and concept-based learning.

Preferred:

  • Experience teaching in an IB MYP school.
  • Experience working with multilingual learners (EAL).
  • Familiarity with MYP Language & Literature and/or Language Acquisition assessment frameworks.
  • Experience teaching within MOET-aligned or MOET-adjacent curricula (advantageous for MRC).

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
