ROLE SUMMARY:

St. Peter’s International School, located in Palmela near Lisbon, serves around 1,500 students from 4 months to 18 years on a modern 37,000 m² campus. We are seeking a passionate and highly qualified IB / IGCSE Chemistry Teacher to deliver the IGCSE and IB Chemistry curricula starting in August 2026. This is an exciting opportunity for an educator dedicated to inspiring scientific inquiry, analytical thinking, and a deep understanding of chemical principles.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons in IGCSE and IB Chemistry, as well as Cambridge Lower Secondary Science (as required).

  • Foster a deep understanding of key chemistry concepts, including atomic structure, bonding, energetics, kinetics, equilibrium, and organic chemistry.

  • Create a stimulating, inclusive classroom environment that encourages investigation, experimentation, and critical thinking.

  • Connect Chemistry concepts to real-world applications, industry, environmental issues, and current scientific research.

  • Integrate practical laboratory work, experimental design, data analysis, and inquiry-based learning approaches.

  • Continuously assess student progress and provide constructive feedback to support academic and personal growth.

  • Contribute to curriculum planning, ensuring content meets international standards and remains current and engaging.

  • Encourage participation in extracurricular activities such as science clubs, competitions, and enrichment programmes.

  • Foster a respectful, supportive, and inclusive classroom culture that prioritizes student well-being.

  • Build strong relationships with students, parents, and colleagues to support learning and development.

  • Engage in ongoing professional development and contribute to school initiatives, events, and mentorship.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • A degree in Chemistry, Education, or a related field (teaching qualification preferred).

  • Experience teaching IGCSE and/or IB Chemistry, or similar international curricula.

  • Passion for Chemistry education and inspiring curiosity through scientific inquiry.

  • Strong practical laboratory skills and a commitment to safe laboratory practice.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

  • Experience working in an international or multicultural environment (preferred).

  • Strong command of English and a clear commitment to student well-being and safeguarding.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
