About you:

We are looking to hire a qualified, proactive, and experienced Technician - Design & Technology (Resistant Materials & Graphics) & ICT to join our team in August 2026. This role is essential within the Design & Technology department, directly supporting high-quality teaching and learning.

Job Purpose:

• Provide technical and practical assistance to teaching staff and students within the Design & Technology department.

• Maintain a secure, organized, and fully operational workshop environment.

• Assist in delivering the curriculum by preparing and maintaining resources and providing in-class support.

Key Responsibilities

• Comply with organizational policies and procedures related to administration, operations, health & safety, and inventory management.

• Keep accurate records of tools, equipment, and materials, including stock management and ordering as necessary.

• Ensure all workshops, tools, machinery, and materials are safe, well-maintained, and ready for use.

• Prepare and set up tools, equipment, and materials ahead of lessons to facilitate effective teaching and learning.

• Support teachers during practical sessions, aiding students with design and construction activities.

• Create and modify teaching aids, prototypes, jigs, and fixtures as needed.

• Set up and assist with hardware, machinery, and ICT equipment for demonstrations and student use.

• Perform routine maintenance, servicing, and minor repairs of workshop machinery and hand tools (wood, metal, plastic processing equipment).

• Ensure adherence to all health and safety regulations, including risk assessments and safe storage of materials.

• Aid in the organization and storage of student work, materials, and resources, including building or adapting storage solutions as required.

• Prepare materials, components, and resource packs for lessons and projects.

• Assist in creating displays and maintaining an inspiring learning environment.

• Support departmental projects, exhibitions, and school-wide initiatives as needed.

• Undertake any other duties reasonably assigned by the school.

Skills, Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

• Relevant qualification or certification in Design & Technology, Engineering, Workshop Practice, or a related field.

• Demonstrated experience working with workshop machinery and tools (woodworking, metalworking, plastics).

• Strong knowledge of health and safety practices within a workshop setting (COSHH, risk assessments, safe machine use).

• Practical, hands-on skills with the capacity to manufacture and repair items.

• Strong organizational and time-management abilities, with the capacity to prioritize tasks effectively.

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with both staff and students.

• Proficiency in ICT, including MS Office, and a willingness to learn new systems (e.g., CAD/CAM software, laser cutters, CNC machines).

• High attention to detail, especially regarding safety and preparation.

• Capability to work independently and take initiative.

Desirable:

• Experience in a school or educational setting.

• Familiarity or experience with CAD/CAM technologies, 3D printing, laser cutting, or CNC equipment.

• First Aid certification.

• Experience supporting students in hands-on learning environments.
