Kivalliq School Operations, a division of the Nunavut Department of Education, is inviting applications for the position of Student Support Teacher. In this role, you will be instrumental in fostering student learning through inclusive and culturally responsive practices. You will work closely with the school team to develop, implement, and assess Individual Education Plans (IEPs) that support student growth, development, and overall well-being. Required Qualifications

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
  • A Special Education Certificate/degree or equivalent coursework is an asset
  • Minimum three years of teaching experience
  • Favorable consideration will be given to experience as a Special Education/Student Support Teacher
  • A valid teaching certificate recognized by or eligible for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers lacking a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials assessed through Pathways to Teach Canada)
  • Experience in bilingual or ESL teaching settings

Desired Qualifications

Candidates need not meet every qualification; relevant experience and a dedication to community-centered education are highly valued.

Student Support & Special Education Expertise

  • Experience in collaborating with classroom teachers to create and implement individual support plans for students with exceptional needs
  • Experience mentoring staff to encourage positive behaviors and maintain a safe learning atmosphere

Language and Cultural Assets

  • Proficiency in Inuktitut (both spoken and written)
  • Experience supporting education based on Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit
  • Experience teaching in cross-cultural or northern Canadian settings

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment

  • Experience in differentiated instruction and inclusive teaching strategies
  • Training or experience in evidence-based li
