About This Role

The British Junior Academy of Brussels (BJAB) is situated in the diplomatic residential district of Brussels, with our diverse student body reflecting our closeness to major EU institutions, significant NGOs, and multinational corporate offices. Since our establishment in 1992, we have earned a solid reputation in the community as a high-quality provider of the National Curriculum of England. BJAB is honored to be affiliated with COBIS (Council of British International Schools) and IAPS (Independent Association of Prep Schools). Following an inspection by ISI in 2019, we were rated ‘Excellent’ in all areas and successfully completed a further ISI compliance inspection in 2022, achieving all British School Overseas (BSO) standards. The report can be accessed here.

We have an impressive track record of guiding students to prestigious European and British independent schools, such as Eton, Thomas’s Battersea, Westminster, Magdalen College, St Mary’s Ascot, and James Allen's Girls School, consistently drawing high-caliber British and international families.

Our ethos is centered around fostering a safe, nurturing, respectful, tolerant, and disciplined environment where high standards are upheld across all aspects of school life. Currently, we serve approximately 280 pupils with a dedicated teaching staff of 48.

The school is in search of an experienced Key Stage Three/Four teacher specializing in Science (preferably Physics or Chemistry), who possesses a robust background in UK Upper Preparatory Education or Secondary education, as well as familiarity with the Cambridge Curriculum. The ideal candidate will be able to teach an additional subject in a form setting and work collaboratively with other subject specialists as necessary. The successful applicant will also take on a pastoral role within the school and contribute to our co-curricular programs. This position includes involvement in curriculum development as our secondary school continues to expand up to Year 13.

We are seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic, and skilled Science Teacher who is excited about the opportunity to help develop our secondary school. The ability to work well within a team and demonstrate flexibility are essential for this role.

BJAB is committed to safeguarding and promoting children's welfare. All applicants will undergo background checks in accordance with British Overseas Standards.

Successful candidates are required to have the following qualifications:
- A comprehensive understanding of UK education and the National Curriculum of England
- Qualified Teacher Status
- A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in a British school (preferred) or a British international school
- The right to work in Belgium and/or eligibility for sponsorship under a Belgian work visa program

Applications lacking these essential criteria will not be considered. We welcome applications from ECTs for this position.

The following experience is highly desirable:
- Teaching experience in Key Stage 4 or GCSEs in a British school or a British international school
- Capability to teach an additional subject such as Mathematics

We are looking for educators who can support, nurture, and challenge children from diverse backgrounds and varying starting points. Creativity, flexibility, professional rigor, integrity, high standards, and a strong level of pastoral care and support are the hallmarks of our professional team.

Working at BJAB provides:
- A competitive salary commensurate with teaching experience and qualifications
- Lunch vouchers for each working day
- Ecological product vouchers
- Transportation compensation and a bike leasing plan
- Pension plan
- Family-inclusive hospitalization insurance
- Work permit and visa sponsorship (including fees)
- Opportunities for professional growth and advancement within the school

This position will commence in August 2025 for an indefinite duration. We are only considering candidates who are interested in full-time employment for this role. Interested applicants should submit the TES application form. The Headteacher, Mr. Francis Retter (f.retter@bjab.org), also invites a brief covering letter and CV.
