About This Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Deputy SENCO to become part of our outstanding team at Manchester Enterprise Academy (MEA).

This is a full-time, permanent role offered on Teaching terms at MPS–UPS, along with a TLR 2.2 allowance of £5,870, set to commence in September 2026.

We are seeking candidates who:

- Are a qualified teacher (QTS) with experience in delivering high-quality, inclusive classroom instruction.
- Possess strong subject expertise in Art, Maths, Geography, Design Technology/Food, or IT.
- Have a solid understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and its application within educational settings.
- Can identify, plan, implement, and evaluate interventions, while maintaining precise and effective records.
- Are dedicated to inclusive practices and achieving positive outcomes for students with special educational needs or disabilities.
- Are adept at analyzing data to inform provisions and drive student progress.
- Have the ability to inspire, motivate, and engage both students and colleagues.
- Are collaborative and contribute positively to a supportive team environment.
- Understand the context and challenges unique to an urban educational setting.
- Are willing to participate in the broader life of the school, including enrichment and extracurricular activities.

Main purpose of the job:
In addition to the general responsibilities characteristic of all classroom teachers, the Deputy SENCO will aid in the strategic leadership and daily management of SEND provisions throughout the school. Working in close collaboration with the SENCO and Senior Leaders, the selected candidate will be instrumental in fostering inclusive practices, ensuring students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) make significant progress and attain positive results.

The post holder is expected to uphold the Teachers’ Standards and apply professional judgment while carrying out their duties in collaboration with others. They will be accountable to the SENCO, a Senior Leader, and ultimately the Headteacher.

Key responsibilities include:

- Supporting the strategic development and application of the SEND policy and provisions throughout the school.
- Maintaining and contributing to an accurate SEND register and provision map.
- Advising and assisting colleagues on effective teaching strategies and the graduated approach to SEND support.
- Leading and assessing intervention programs to enhance outcomes for students with SEND.
- Analyzing data to track progress and guide provision planning.
- Collaborating closely with external agencies, parents/carers, and the local authority to meet student needs.
- Supporting Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) processes and reviews.
- Advocating for inclusive practices and equal opportunities across the school.
- Assisting in the line management and development of teaching assistants.
- Contributing to staff training, continued professional development (CPD), and school-wide improvement priorities.
