About This Role

The British Junior Academy of Brussels (BJAB) is situated in the diplomatic residential area of Brussels, and our diverse student body reflects our closeness to key EU institutions, major NGOs, and multinational company offices. Established in 1992, we are recognized in the community as a provider of the National Curriculum of England. BJAB is proud to be associated with COBIS (Council of British International Schools) and IAPS (Independent Association of Prep Schools). The school was evaluated by ISI in 2019 and received an 'Excellent' rating across all categories, successfully completing a further compliance inspection in 2022, meeting all British School Overseas (BSO) standards. The inspection report can be accessed here.

Our school has a strong track record of preparing students for prestigious European and British independent schools, including Eton, Thomas’s Battersea, Westminster, Magdalen College, St Mary’s Ascot, and James Allen's Girls School, and continues to attract high-quality British and international families.

We are dedicated to fostering a safe, caring, respectful, tolerant, and disciplined environment where high standards are upheld in every aspect of school life. Currently, BJAB serves approximately 280 students with a teaching staff of 48.

The school is in search of a knowledgeable Computing/STEM teacher with a specialization in STEM, ideally possessing a solid background in UK Upper Preparatory Education and Secondary Education, as well as familiarity with the Cambridge Curriculum. The ideal applicant will be capable of teaching an additional subject within a form setting and collaborating with other subject specialists as needed. The successful candidate will also take on a pastoral role within the school and engage in the school's co-curricular activities. This role will involve contributing to curriculum development for our growing secondary school as we expand each year up to Year 13.

BJAB is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of children. All applicants will undergo background checks in accordance with British Overseas Standards.

Candidates must meet the following qualifications:
- A strong understanding of UK education and the National Curriculum of England
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- A minimum of 3 years teaching experience in a British school (preferred) or a British international school
- Native or fluent command of English
- Eligibility to work in Belgium and/or ability to obtain sponsorship under a Belgian work visa programme

Applications lacking these essential criteria will not be considered. We encourage applications from Early Career Teachers (ECTs) for this position.

The following experience is highly advantageous:
- Teaching experience in Key Stage 4 or at IGCSE level in a British school or a British international school
- Capability to teach an additional subject, such as natural sciences

We seek a dedicated, enthusiastic, and skilled Computing/STEM Specialist who shares our vision of advancing our school into secondary education. A collaborative mindset and flexibility are crucial for this role. We are looking for educators who can support, nurture, and challenge students from various backgrounds and starting points. Creativity, adaptability, professional integrity, high expectations, and strong pastoral care are the hallmarks of our professional team.

Working at BJAB provides:
- A competitive salary based on teaching experience and qualifications
- Lunch vouchers for each working day
- Vouchers for ecological products
- Transportation compensation and bike leasing plan
- Pension plan
- Hospitalization insurance (family included)
- Work permit and visa sponsorship (fees covered)
- Opportunities for professional development and career advancement within the school
