About This Role:
York House School is seeking applications from empathetic, innovative, and highly qualified Teacher Librarians who are committed to delivering an outstanding 21st Century learning environment for our students. Reporting to the Vice Principal of Student Success, the ideal candidate will excel in library management and possess current knowledge of various text formats, including digital, media, and print. Proficiency in information technology (cataloging, database management), research, critical thinking, customer service, communication, and adaptability to new digital tools is essential. The candidate will also have the chance to engage in co-curricular and extracurricular activities that enrich students’ experiences at school.

Qualifications
- Bachelor of Education
- British Columbia Teachers' certification or equivalent
- Experience in an Independent School setting is advantageous
- Any combination equivalent to: two years of college-level coursework in library science (or Library Technician Certificate); coursework or program in museum and/or archival studies is a plus

Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily operations of the Senior Learning Commons and its integration with Senior School academic and co-curricular programs
- Advocate for the Learning Commons as a dynamic, flexible, and student-focused center for collaboration, inquiry, and creativity
- Manage the Learning Commons budget
- Supervise and support the Senior Learning Commons Library Technician
- Evaluate and enhance collections: select and procure books and resources; design and implement displays that resonate with the senior school community
- Ensure that texts and resources present diverse perspectives and are suitable for the respective age and developmental stage
- Communicate with students, parents, and faculty regarding library loans and policies
- Teach or assist classes during learning activities, covering research, resource selection, citation, and technology assistance
- Actively organize and oversee special events in the Learning Commons, including author visits, guest speakers, reading incentives and contests, and cultural book fairs
- Aid individuals or groups in accessing resources, whether online or in print
- Support classes in the creation of Libguides for class projects and units
- Possible teaching duties and responsibilities
- Additional tasks may be assigned as necessary to assist in other areas

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- Collaborative and adaptable, with a supportive and effective team-oriented approach
- Ability to cultivate strong professional relationships with all stakeholders
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities
- A minimum of three years of library-based experience; prior experience in Senior School Learning Commons settings is preferred
- Familiarity with automated library systems, research databases, student registration systems, and Libguides
- Capability to assist teachers in providing a wide range of resources, both print and digital, to support disciplinary learning
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Knowledgeable in library/learning commons data management, including report creation, data analysis, goal setting, and benchmarking
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and customer service abilities
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google applications, and Mac operating systems

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
