Attendance Officer
About This Role
John Smeaton Academy is seeking to appoint a dedicated, resilient and highly motivated Attendance Officer to join our pastoral team. This is a key role within the academy, focused on promoting excellent attendance and punctuality, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to achieve their full potential.
The successful candidate will work closely with students, families, pastoral leaders and external agencies to identify and remove barriers to attendance. They will monitor attendance data, support intervention strategies, conduct home visits where required and build positive relationships with parents and carers to improve outcomes for young people. The role demands a proactive and compassionate individual who is committed to making a difference in the lives of students and ensuring high levels of attendance across the academy.
Potential applicants should have:
- Experience of working with young people and supporting them to overcome barriers to success, ideally within a secondary school environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents/carers, colleagues and external agencies.
- A strong understanding of attendance processes, safeguarding responsibilities and the factors that can impact student attendance and wellbeing.
- The ability to analyse attendance data effectively and use this information to inform targeted intervention strategies.
- A passion for improving outcomes for young people, together with the drive, resilience and determination to make a positive difference to students' lives.
