About This Role

Job Title: Head of Economics, Business and Accounting (HOD)

Reports to: Academic Centre

Supervises: FCs & Teachers in Department

Executive Summary:

The Head of Department (HOD) serves as the leader and organizer for teaching and curriculum enhancement within the subject area, ensuring high standards of teaching and ongoing development of the discipline.

Core Mission:

1. Align with the school's vision, mission, and strategic objectives.

2. Define the Department's vision and steer its developmental trajectory.

3. Conduct assessments and offer effective academic and teaching leadership.

4. Oversee the curriculum quality and evaluate individual courses.

5. Grasp the broader developments within the school to make informed decisions aligned with its mission.

Specific Responsibilities:

Leadership

1. Formulate and monitor departmental improvement plans, establishing targets as needed.

2. Assist in recruiting and onboarding exceptional teachers for the department.

3. Represent the department in meetings, contributing to relevant school policies and their implementation.

4. Supervise Faculty Coordinators, providing guidance and training as required.

Teaching and Learning

1. Promote the professional development of teachers and collaborate with PD Leads within the school and external providers to enhance teacher development opportunities.

2. Implement the school’s performance management system to effectively assess teacher performance.

3. Establish common standards of practice, encouraging the sharing of effective pedagogical approaches within the department to enhance teaching and learning.

Curriculum and Assessment

1. Lead the curriculum development initiatives for the subject and coordinate resource sharing, establishing uniform standards.

2. Oversee subject assessments, ensuring that reporting of results adheres to agreed standards and is timely.

3. Ensure assessments are accurate, moderated, and adequately prepare students for examinations.

4. Provide developmental feedback to students that is thorough and consistent to promote progress.

5. Analyze examination results (including CIE and internal exams) and integrate findings into the department's development plan.

6. Collaborate with Division (Year) Leaders to ensure department staff effectively identify and assist underachieving students.

Other Duties

1. Develop and manage the department budget responsibly and implement it efficiently.

2. Work with Division (Year) Leaders to ensure successful subject delivery at the division level.

3. Maintain attendance records for departmental staff, submitting them to the registrar and assigning cover for sick or other types of leave.

4. Undertake any other reasonable responsibilities as assigned by the school.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
