About This Role

ROLE SUMMARY:

St. Peter’s International School, situated in Palmela near Lisbon, caters to approximately 1,500 students aged 4 months to 18 years on an expansive 37,000 m² campus. The institution provides a bilingual curriculum (Portuguese/English), Cambridge programmes, and the International Baccalaureate, along with boarding facilities for older students. We are in search of an enthusiastic and highly skilled Head of IB English to guide and implement the IB English Language & Literature and/or Literature programmes, commencing in August for the upcoming academic year. This is a thrilling leadership role for a seasoned educator dedicated to academic excellence, inspiring learners, encouraging critical thinking, and enhancing a top-notch English department.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES



Lead, develop, and manage the IB English curriculum and teaching team.


Create and deliver engaging, differentiated IB English lessons for a variety of learners.


Implement innovative teaching strategies, including inquiry-based learning and digital resources.


Track student progress, ensuring the maintenance of high academic standards and effective assessment methods.


Assist in curriculum planning, standardization, and departmental growth.


Cultivate a respectful, inclusive classroom environment and promote student well-being.


Collaborate with senior leadership, contribute to school-wide initiatives, and engage in extracurricular activities.


Participate in ongoing professional development and adhere to safeguarding policies.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:


A degree in English, Education, or a related discipline (teaching qualification is essential).


Demonstrated experience teaching IB English (Language & Literature and/or Literature).


Prior experience in a leadership or coordination position (preferred).


A passion for motivating students and fostering both academic and personal development.


Outstanding communication, leadership, collaboration, and organizational abilities.


Experience in an international or multicultural educational setting (preferred).


Strong proficiency in English and a firm commitment to student well-being.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
