Job Title: PE/Swim Intern (ideal for recent graduates) starting August 2026
Department: Physical Education
Key Responsibilities:
The PE/Swim Intern will report to the Head of PE and collaborate as part of a team to ensure effective coaching and instruction in PE and swimming. Specifically, the PE/Swim Intern will:
● be accountable to the Line Manager designated by The Principal, typically the Head of Department in a subject area that aligns with the Intern's interests;
● coordinate closely with other school leaders as necessary. For instance, the Intern might spend time with the Assistant Principal, Vice Principal, or Year Team Leaders.
Tasks:
The PE/Swim Intern will:
● support the PE curriculum, sports teams, and swim team;
● plan, deliver, and evaluate a seasonal plan for a designated PE/swim team or squad;
● conduct testing and evaluation for the assigned PE/swim team or squad;
● attend competitions for sports teams, which may take place on weekends or after school;
● participate in all training sessions for their assigned PE/swim team or squad, which may include lunch or after-school commitments;
● take a leading role in enhancing the Learning Environment and Display in designated subject areas;
● assist teachers with planning and administrative duties;
● have opportunities to team teach and lead classes when appropriate;
● support school leaders with additional tasks as requested.
Professional Expectations:
The ideal PE/Swim Intern should possess the following attributes:
● a degree in sports science or sports studies;
● a recognized swim teaching or coaching qualification (preferred);
● a recognized lifeguarding qualification (preferred);
● a strong team player with a solid understanding of professional responsibilities;
● a diverse and innovative approach to EAL provision;
● current and comprehensive knowledge of EAL issues and strategies, with a strong desire to stay informed about developments in the field;
● a robust commitment to teamwork, proactively engaging with staff, students, and parents;
● keen attention to detail when assessing students;
● excellent interpersonal skills for effective communication with parents, teachers, and students;
● strong organizational abilities;
● a focus on Health and Safety considerations related to EAL.
