About This Role

Primary Teacher (Expat)

Main Accountabilities:

At SISC, the teacher's primary responsibility is to instruct a classroom of up to 25 students, depending on the grade level. For grades 1 to 5, instruction follows the Cambridge Primary Curriculum Framework.

A teacher must:

● Possess a deep understanding of the Cambridge International curriculum standards and have experience in bridging the achievement gap.

● Create captivating and innovative lessons that foster academic, social, and emotional growth among students.

● Enthusiastically integrate technology and hands-on learning opportunities into the classroom.

● Collaborate with colleagues, promoting understanding and communication in a culturally diverse learning environment.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

● Provide engaging and effective lessons that cultivate students' eagerness to learn.

● Meet the learning objectives of the Cambridge International Curriculum through the curriculum's content, structure, and delivery methods.

● Develop and execute a comprehensive, well-sequenced learning program that reflects current pedagogical practices and individual skill levels.

● Prepare daily lesson plans and learning activities for students, aligned with national, local, and school educational standards while considering developmental behaviors.

● Plan and implement cross-curricular teaching and learning experiences.

● Deliver high-quality, engaging instruction through discussions, direct teaching, demonstrations, and independent practice using various effective methods.

● Differentiate lessons as necessary to ensure all students can access the curriculum, regardless of disability, instructional level, English proficiency, or interest in the subject.

● Foster an environment of active and genuine learning by utilizing a variety of teaching strategies to cater to all students’ needs.

● Assess student performance on tasks defined by the standards through various methods such as observation, performance-based tasks, or standardized testing practices.

● Track student attendance and communicate any absences to the designated office promptly.

● Select suitable materials and resources for teaching mathematics, developing creative approaches to teaching and learning.

● Plan, coordinate, and organize activities for both the school and community, assisting students in effectively displaying and presenting their work.

● Monitor each student's progress and keep students and parents informed of developments through Managua and other communication channels.

● Take responsibility for supporting students in internal or external competitions or activities.

● Develop, organize, and lead the School’s Co-Curricular/After-School Programs.

● Collaborate with staff to ensure the preparation of appropriate events and activities with minimal disruption to the regular schedule.

● Attend subject or area association meetings as needed and maintain professional relationships. Actively engage in the development and enhancement of your subject area by utilizing up-to-date teaching methods and curriculum resources.

● Be available for additional duties as required within the scope of the position and familiarize yourself with the Southbridge calendar of events, including class activities.

● Serve as a positive role model for students, parents, colleagues, and the wider Southbridge International School Cambodia community.

● Adhere to and uphold all policies and procedures of Southbridge International School Cambodia (SISC), ensuring actions or omissions do not affect others' health and safety within the school.

● Apply fundamental knowledge expected of a professional regarding anti-discrimination principles and equal opportunity legislation and their application in the workplace. Be able to articulate the principles of equal opportunity and the value of diversity.

● Demonstrate a commitment to promoting and achieving best practices concerning student well-being and child safety by implementing SISC policies and practices.

● Maintain professional communication standards with staff, parents, and students using appropriate channels.

● Perform other tasks assigned by supervisors.

● A degree in Education or equivalent.

● Strong interpersonal skills.

● Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

● Dependable with good time management.

● Willingness to work outside standard office hours (including evenings and weekends), with compensatory time off.

● Competence in following instructions accurately and demonstrating initiative when appropriate.

● Capability to organize the work of others and meet deadlines.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
