About This Role

Sherborne Schools Group is on the lookout for a dynamic and innovative Teacher of Textiles (full or part-time) to join the team at Sherborne Girls. This is an exciting moment for our textiles department, with impressive enrollment at both GCSE and A level and the introduction of a new A level course (AQA) set to commence in September 2026. The selected textiles teacher will be instrumental in shaping the future of Art & Design at Sherborne Girls.

We are in search of a highly talented and motivational textiles educator to teach from KS3 through to A level. Textiles enjoys significant popularity and success within our vibrant art and design department. All students engage with textiles in Year 9, and approximately 30 opt to pursue it at GCSE level. We adhere to the AQA GCSE textiles curriculum, while our A level students follow the AQA Art and Design Textiles course.

Our art department occupies a remarkable building that features well-equipped studios and workshops for Textile Design, Fine Art, Photography, 3D Design, and History of Art. This space is connected to our creative hub, which also encompasses drama and music. Additionally, we boast a modern, purpose-built gallery: the Wirth Gallery, which hosts a dynamic array of exhibitions and events showcasing the work of students, staff, local community members, and visiting artists.

We are looking for a candidate who holds a degree in textiles or a related field. The ideal applicant should be an inspiring and imaginative role model for students, with a genuine passion for textiles. A strong grasp of contemporary subject matter is essential, and the individual must be prepared to teach textiles in its broadest context, spanning fashion and costume to installation and sculptural art. Our forward-thinking department collaborates closely to ensure that students have a positive, challenging, and creative learning experience.

While the primary workplace will be Sherborne Girls School, the successful candidate will also be expected to engage with and support initiatives across the wider Sherborne Schools Group. Occasionally, they may be called upon to work at other schools or locations within the Group to address the needs of the organization. This role presents a thrilling opportunity to contribute significantly to the success of the individual school as well as to the ongoing growth of the Group as a whole.
