About This Role

York House School is on the lookout for compassionate, innovative, and well-qualified Teacher Librarians who are dedicated to creating an exceptional 21st Century learning environment for our students. Reporting to the Vice Principal of Student Success, the successful candidate will be proficient in library management and possess up-to-date knowledge of various text formats, including digital, media, and print. Essential skills include information technology (cataloging, database management), research, critical thinking, customer service, communication, and adaptability to new digital tools. The role also offers opportunities to participate in co-curricular and extracurricular activities that enhance student experiences at the school.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Education
  • British Columbia Teachers' certification or equivalent
  • Experience in an Independent School environment is beneficial
  • Any combination equivalent to: two years of college-level coursework in library science (or Library Technician Certificate); coursework or program in museum and/or archival studies is an advantage

Responsibilities

  • Manage the daily operations of the Senior Learning Commons and ensure its integration with Senior School academic and co-curricular activities
  • Promote the Learning Commons as a vibrant, adaptable, and student-centered space for collaboration, inquiry, and creativity
  • Oversee the Learning Commons budget
  • Supervise and support the Senior Learning Commons Library Technician
  • Assess and improve collections: select and acquire books and resources; create and implement displays that engage the senior school community
  • Ensure that texts and resources provide diverse perspectives and are appropriate for the intended age and developmental level
  • Communicate with students, parents, and faculty about library loans and policies
  • Teach or assist in classes during learning activities, focusing on research, resource selection, citation, and technology support
  • Organize and manage special events in the Learning Commons, such as author visits, guest speakers, reading programs and contests, and cultural book fairs
  • Assist individuals or groups in accessing resources, whether online or in print
  • Support classes in developing Libguides for projects and units
  • Possible teaching duties and responsibilities
  • Additional tasks may be assigned as needed to assist in other areas

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
