Required Qualifications
Education & Certification
• Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
• A valid teaching certificate recognized by or eligible for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated candidates without a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials evaluated through Pathways To Teach Canada)

Desired Qualifications
Candidates do not need to meet every qualification; relevant experience and a commitment to community-centered education are highly valued.

Language and Cultural Assets
• Proficiency in Inuktitut (both verbal and written)
• Experience with educational practices based on Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit
• Background in bilingual or ESL teaching settings
• Experience teaching in cross-cultural or northern Canadian environments

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment
• Understanding of differentiated instruction and inclusive teaching practices
• Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development
• Knowledge of current assessment strategies to enhance student learning
• Experience in fostering a positive learning atmosphere with effective classroom management techniques (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)

Relationships & Student Engagement
• Proven ability to cultivate respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community members
• Experience in promoting student well-being and engagement
• Involvement with students outside the classroom, as appropriate

Collaboration & Professional Practice
• Experience in collaborative instructional planning and support for students
• Ability to function as part of a unified school team
• Commitment to learning and contributing within a community-driven environment

Compensation and benefits
• Salary Range: $93,906 - $147,243 (commensurate with experience)
• Nunavut Northern Allowance for Kinngait, Nunavut: $20,980
• Subsidized Housing: Staff housing is available, though it may involve sharing.

Conditions of Employment
• Current employees of the Government of Nunavut must hold a valid Nunavut teaching certificate.
• Candidates from outside Nunavut must provide a copy of a valid public-school teaching certificate from a Canadian jurisdiction recognized by the Nunavut Department of Education. Applications without this documentation will not be considered.
