The ideal candidate will be a dedicated classroom teacher who values the knowledge, understanding, and skills that this subject imparts to students. A strong familiarity with our Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications (refer to the options handbook) and a clear vision for advancing our growing and popular Design Technology program is crucial.
Position Overview
The new Head of Department will supervise a team of three specialized teachers within our Creative Arts Faculty, with the support of proficient technicians and learning mentors. As this is the sole growth position currently available, our new colleague will benefit from an established team alongside substantial support and institutional expertise.
The Secondary Head of Department position is compensated according to our Position of Responsibility scale at POR 2.
Initial contracts for teaching typically last two years, from August 2026 to July 2028. All Positions of Responsibility are reviewed and renewed annually by school leadership.
Curriculum and Values
Every student in Key Stage 3 participates in Design Technology and has the opportunity to pursue the Cambridge IGCSE Design and Technology qualification in Key Stage 4. In the Sixth Form, we offer the Cambridge A Level Design and Technology qualification. We are looking for educators who can weave our values, the Sustainable Development Goals, and intercultural competencies into their teaching and curriculum development. We seek reflective educators who are passionate about lifelong learning.
Eligibility and Commitment
To be eligible for this role, you must exhibit a genuine commitment to working in a progressive, supportive, and forward-thinking environment. The ability to collaborate effectively within a large, dynamic, and growing school community is essential. We value educators who are committed to their own professional development. Our goal is to create learning opportunities for our staff, families, and students that are challenging, inventive, engaging, cooperative, and tailored.
