THE ROLE
Our Inclusion department has greatly improved student outcomes and inspired a love for learning at GEMS World Academy. This achievement is due to our staff’s dedication, expertise, and the innovative strategies implemented within the department. The Inclusion team is highly valued by students for the individualized support and attention they provide.
We are currently seeking a creative Secondary Alternative Pathways Teacher to join our vibrant team, commencing in August 2026.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
• Collaborate with the Head of Inclusion to create the Alternative Pathway curriculum and manage scheduling.
• Partner with the Head of Inclusion on upcoming initiatives related to the Alternative Pathway within the school.
• Work with subject teachers to adapt mainstream lesson plans to accommodate diverse learning needs.
• Oversee and maintain the IASEND assessment tracker for the Alternative Pathway.
• Liaise with the Head of Inclusion and subject teachers regarding the reporting systems for the Alternative Pathway.
• Collaborate with Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) and Learning Support case managers to develop and manage resources for ASDAN and the Alternative Pathway.
• Conduct internal moderation of ASDAN student files for certification.
• Lead professional development sessions for 1:1 Learning Support Assistants centered on ASDAN.
• Supervise the implementation of ASDAN tasks and assignments.
• Coordinate with the Dubai ASDAN coordinator and the International Development coordinator to ensure effective integration, review, and moderation of the ASDAN programme.
• Stay updated on national and international developments in the ASDAN curriculum.
SKILLS
The ideal candidate will possess a demonstrated history of effective teaching and a commitment to student success. While experience in the IB Middle Years Programmes and Diploma Programmes is preferred, exceptional educators from any curriculum background are welcome to apply. Alignment with the IB philosophy and a dedication to the values of the Learner Profile are essential. A genuine enthusiasm for working in a non-selective, culturally rich environment is also crucial. Additionally, candidates should have:
• A Bachelor of Education degree or an initial degree with a relevant teaching qualification such as a PGCE, PGDE, or equivalent specialization in Special Educational Needs (SEN) or Inclusion.
• A minimum of 3 years of diverse and demonstrable experience working with SEN students or in an Inclusion capacity.
• Full-time professional certification as an Alternative Pathways teacher.
• Teaching and/or administrative experience (preferably at least 5 years).
• Strong public relations abilities, a positive collaborative spirit, a solid work ethic, and a commitment to the overall welfare of the school community.
• Advanced qualifications are preferred but not essential.
• A strong desire to continuously improve teaching practices and provide outstanding learning experiences for students.
• Availability to start in August 2026.
