About This Role

We are excited to invite applications for a devoted, enthusiastic, and driven Primary Teacher to begin in September 2025.

As a Primary Teacher at the Canadian School of Florence, you will be integral in achieving our goal of providing an all-encompassing and stimulating education for our primary students. You will deliver the Canadian (Ontario) Curriculum by planning, executing, and assessing educational opportunities for your students while collaborating positively with your colleagues.

Teaching and Learning

  • Advocate for the school’s mission and philosophy, guiding children towards becoming responsible global citizens.
  • Be adaptable to the school’s needs, actively participating in its growth and development plans.
  • Implement established policies and initiatives.
  • Exhibit comprehensive curriculum knowledge, teaching and assessing effectively.
  • Fulfill assessment, evaluation, and recording requirements for student development.
  • Utilize tracking and monitoring systems to enhance children’s learning in line with the school’s objectives.
  • Take charge of your professional development and contribute to it.
  • Clearly communicate the school’s core messages and values, serving as an ambassador for our institution at all times.

Planning and Classroom Management:

  • Organize the learning environment and resources to foster an engaging classroom atmosphere.
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver lessons that inspire students and accommodate diverse needs and abilities while adhering to ministry curriculum guidelines.
  • Maintain effective behavior management in the classroom and encourage a positive attitude towards learning.
  • Ensure equitable learning opportunities for all students, creating an environment free from discrimination.
  • Provide regular progress updates to administrators and parents/guardians, including daily communications when appropriate.
  • Stay informed about developments in your subject area, teaching resources, and strategies, integrating relevant changes into instructional plans.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, particularly the Learning Support Coordinator, DSL, and Well-being Lead as needed.
  • Be flexible and cooperative when planning and working within school teams.
  • Engage in the school community beyond the classroom.
  • Participate in co-curricular activities enthusiastically.
  • Help plan and organize day trips with the Primary team as necessary.
  • Support school-wide events, including productions and assemblies.

Your Profile

Education & Training

  • Bachelor of Education degree (Ontario or equivalent).
  • Ontario Teachers’ Certificate or an international teaching qualification, in good standing.
  • Qualified to teach Primary/Junior students.
  • Native English speaker.

Experience

  • At least three (3) years of experience teaching in Primary or Junior grades.
  • Demonstrates creativity, a passion for teaching, and a strong work ethic.
  • Experience with innovative teaching methods and learning strategies.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, and mediation abilities.
  • Commitment to the mission and vision of the school, both academically and in co-curricular activities.
  • Energetic and enthusiastic, capable of fostering unique learning experiences for students.
  • Able to thrive in a collaborative, adaptable, and supportive team environment.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting equality.
  • Uphold confidentiality at all times.
  • Experience in independent schools, along with coaching or extracurricular involvement, is a plus.

The School

The Canadian School of Florence is a K-12 institution serving students aged 3 to 18. The lower primary campus (Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 3) is located in San Domenico, Fiesole. The Upper primary campus (Grades 4 & 6) and Middle School campus (Grades 7-8).
