2. Job Summary
The Music Teacher (Musical Theatre & Performing Arts) is responsible for delivering outstanding music education centered on musical theatre, performance, and vocal development for students at the international school. This role entails designing engaging lesson plans, directing school productions, assessing student progress, and fostering a nurturing and inclusive learning environment. The teacher is expected to apply various teaching strategies to cater to the diverse learning styles of students while enhancing their musical, theatrical, and performance skills, along with their critical thinking and creativity.

3. Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Instruction

Lesson Planning and Delivery:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive lesson plans that adhere to the school's curriculum standards and international educational frameworks (e.g., IB, A-Level, or other relevant performing arts programs).
  • Lead stimulating and interactive music and performance classes for students from middle to high school.
  • Incorporate aspects of musical theatre, such as acting, dancing, and singing, to provide a well-rounded performing arts education.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching methods, including hands-on experiences, group collaborations, and technology-assisted learning tools, to make musical concepts both engaging and accessible for students.

Differentiated Instruction:

  • Adjust instruction to meet the individual learning needs of all students, including those with special educational requirements and gifted learners.
  • Provide additional support and challenges as needed to ensure that each student can enhance their musical and performance capabilities.

Assessment:

  • Continuously assess student learning through assignments, quizzes, tests, performances, and projects.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students to help them improve their performance.
  • Monitor student progress in music theory, vocal techniques, and performance skills while keeping accurate records of grades and attendance.

School Productions

Production Planning and Direction:

  • Organize, direct, and produce annual school musicals or plays, managing all facets from auditions to performances.
  • Select appropriate musicals or plays that align with the school's curriculum and the students' skill levels.
  • Conduct auditions and cast students, offering constructive feedback and guidance throughout the casting process.

Rehearsal Management:

  • Coordinate regular rehearsals, teaching students vocal techniques, acting skills, and stage movements.
  • Collaborate with the drama, dance, and technical theatre departments to create cohesive and professional productions.
  • Ensure students are well-prepared for performances, including the organization of costumes, props, and set design.

Student Development:

  • Provide individual vocal coaching to help students enhance their pitch, tone, breath control, and performance confidence.
  • Encourage students to develop their own artistic interpretations and creativity in their performances.
  • Assist students in preparing for college and conservatory auditions (if applicable) and offer guidance in their artistic pursuits.

Classroom Management

Positive Learning Environment:

  • Create a positive, inclusive, and respectful classroom setting that encourages student participation and engagement in music and performance activities.
  • Establish clear rules and expectations for student behavior during lessons and rehearsals, consistently enforcing them.

Conflict Resolution:

  • Skillfully manage classroom activities, ensuring smooth transitions and maximizing instructional time.
  • Professionally address student conflicts and disciplinary issues related to music and performance activities, escalating to the appropriate authority when needed.
