About This Role

Job Title: IB Music Teacher

Job Purpose: Deliver exceptional music lessons and create learning opportunities for all students, ensuring that every child can achieve their fullest potential in music.

Reporting to: Head of MYP and PYP

Key Relationships: Collaborate with fellow educators in both the Primary School and Upper School, as well as engage with parents and students.

Contract Duration: Two Years

Salary: Competitive, to be determined.

Job Overview:

The Music Teacher will provide outstanding music education for students from Grades 1 to 9, fostering a deeper appreciation for music and enhancing instructional practices. The role is designed to enrich students' enjoyment and performance through a diverse array of musical experiences, including singing, movement, instrument playing, and listening, along with fulfilling additional responsibilities pertinent to this position.

Key Responsibilities:

· Design and implement engaging, high-quality lessons aligned with the JTIS International Curriculum.

· Leverage strong music knowledge and teaching methodologies to enhance student learning.

· Instruct a broad spectrum of music, encompassing both traditional and contemporary pieces suitable for various ages and skill levels.

· Facilitate music ensembles such as instrumental groups, rock band, choir, and musicals during school hours and in After School Clubs.

· Organize, rehearse, and lead students in musical events (e.g., Winter Festival Concert, Talent Show, Summer Concert) for both the school and community.

· Tailor the music curriculum to accommodate the diverse needs of individual students across different grades.

· Continuously develop and enhance the music curriculum in line with PYP/MYP standards of creating, performing, and responding.

· Assess each student's musical development and their contributions to group performances, ensuring inclusivity.

· Employ positive classroom management techniques to promote excellent behavior, conducive to a flourishing learning environment.

· Utilize formative assessments to structure lessons that enable students to achieve their potential.

· Deliver inquiry-based and interactive music lessons that stimulate student curiosity and foster ongoing improvement.

· Provide prompt feedback to students to guide their progress in music studies.

· Utilize the school’s record-keeping system to monitor attendance, assessments, and student progress.

· Maintain a safe and organized classroom that supports independent and collaborative learning in music.

· Oversee students during breaks and lunchtime, ensuring safe and orderly transitions.

· Keep accurate and comprehensive records of both formative and summative assessments.

· Prepare well-written reports on student performance for both internal and external purposes, as scheduled in the Assessment Timetable.

· Engage in parent-teacher meetings to discuss student progress and learning objectives in music.

· Communicate and collaborate with parents regarding any pastoral care issues concerning their children.

· Coordinate with the MYP or PYP Co-ordinator before addressing parents on sensitive matters.

· Foster enthusiasm and loyalty within the school's House system.

· Promote and uphold high standards of student behavior and appearance in accordance with school policies.

· Adhere to JTIS policies regarding student Safeguarding and Health and Safety on and off school premises.

· Be ready to support all school events, including pre- and post-school duties, parent-teacher meetings, staff development sessions, residential trips, after-school clubs, and school celebrations.

Collegiality:

· Attend meetings aimed at sharing essential information for the smooth operation of the school and the effective delivery of its programs, including Staff Development meetings, PYP or MYP Collaboration Meetings, and any other meetings requested by the Principal.

· Collaborate closely with the Senior Leadership Team and other stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of the School’s strategic plan.

· Set a professional example in all matters, ensuring that both teachers and students adhere to standards such as dress code, punctuality, and mutual support.

· Supervise students during non-instructional times as indicated by the duty roster, as requested by the SLT.

· Conduct oneself at all times in a manner that is exemplary for the school’s students and respectful to colleagues, enhancing the reputation of JTIS.

· Represent the School at official events as requested by the Principal.

Communication:

· Collaborate and share information with co-teachers and Specialist Teachers regarding pastoral and behavioral matters to support students and their families.

· Contribute effectively to Grade, Primary, and Whole School meetings with relevant agenda points and support for developments.

· Follow the Home School Communication Policy to ensure effective information sharing with parents about school events, pastoral care, and student academic progress.

· Ensure open communication with Teaching and Admin colleagues to adhere to all school policies.

· Maintain effective communication with the SLT regarding parent inquiries or concerns.

· Share subject-specific information (where appropriate) across the school, including calendared events.

· Uphold confidentiality regarding information within the PYP and MYP teams and SLT.

Person Specification:

· A Bachelor’s degree in Music, primary/secondary education, or a related field; an advanced degree is preferred.

· An internationally recognized Teaching Certificate such as U.S. Teaching Certification, U.K. P.G.C.E, or Qualified Teacher Status.

· At least 3 years of teaching experience.

· Knowledge and understanding of various Music Curricula.

· Proven exemplary classroom practices relevant to the designated phases.

· Familiarity with International Schools and teaching in China.

· A strong dedication to extracurricular activities.

· Excellent interpersonal skills.

· Proficient communication, administrative, organizational, and IT skills.

· A willingness to engage actively in school life beyond the standard teaching hours.

· A flexible and adaptable mindset for living overseas and teaching in a new environment.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
