Head of Math - August 2026

The Head of Mathematics plays a pivotal role in providing strategic leadership and oversight for the Mathematics department throughout the school, ensuring that teaching and learning excel within the International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes, including frameworks such as PYP, MYP, and DP, as well as the American curriculum. This position encompasses responsibilities in curriculum development, instructional leadership, staff management, monitoring student achievement, and ensuring alignment with global best practices.

The Head of Mathematics cultivates a culture of collaboration, encourages academic innovation, and maintains high standards for student progress and achievement across all grade levels.

Key Responsibilities

• Strategic Leadership & Vision
  • Establish and implement a comprehensive vision for Mathematics school-wide.
  • Ensure vertical and horizontal alignment of IB and American curriculum standards.
  • Lead curriculum review processes and guarantee compliance with IB and accreditation standards.
  • Advocate for inquiry-based, conceptual, and skills-focused mathematics education.
• Curriculum & Instruction
  • Supervise the planning, execution, and assessment of Mathematics across all divisions.
  • Ensure adherence to IB programme standards and American educational standards (e.g., Common Core or relevant state standards).
  • Oversee unit planning, assessment design, and differentiation techniques.
  • Encourage the integration of technology and innovative teaching methods.
• Teaching & Learning Excellence
  • Mentor and coach mathematics educators to enhance instructional quality.
  • Conduct lesson observations and provide constructive feedback.
  • Spearhead professional development initiatives within the department.
  • Promote data-informed instruction and analyze student performance metrics.
• Assessment & Student Achievement
  • Oversee both internal and external assessment processes.
  • Track results from the IB Diploma Programme mathematics and other standardized assessments.
  • Analyze student data to discern trends and implement intervention strategies.
  • Ensure uniform grading practices across all grade levels.
• Staff Leadership & Management
  • Direct the recruitment, onboarding, and evaluation of mathematics staff.
  • Encourage collaboration, teamwork, and professional development within the department.
  • Lead departmental meetings and contribute to leadership discussions across the school.
  • Manage the department’s budget and resources effectively.
• Student Support & Engagement
  • Advocate for enrichment opportunities, such as math competitions, clubs, and academic challenges.
  • Assist students with course selection and academic planning, particularly concerning IB Mathematics pathways.
  • Ensure inclusive practices are in place for diverse learners, including EAL and SEN students.
• Compliance & Accreditation
  • Ensure that documentation and practices meet IB requirements.
  • Participate in accreditation processes and contribute to school improvement initiatives.
  • Uphold high standards of academic integrity.
