Egypt British International School (EBIS) is seeking to appoint an exceptional and experienced Head of English (Whole School) to lead our English department for the 2026 academic year, reflecting our mission of Enriching – Exploring – Excelling and our core values of enrichment, empowerment, esteem, and excellence.

This critical leadership role is perfect for a dynamic and innovative educator committed to raising English standards across all key stages while also fulfilling a teaching role in the Middle School.

The ideal candidate will promote outstanding teaching and learning, foster a love for language and literature, and guide a cohesive, high-performing department within a supportive and culturally diverse British-curriculum environment.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field, along with recognized Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • At least 5 years of successful teaching experience, including experience in a British-curriculum school.
  • Proven leadership experience (for example, as Head of Department, Key Stage Coordinator, or a similar role).
  • Strong knowledge of English Language and Literature, with a clear understanding of progression from Primary through Middle (KS1–KS3 preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead curriculum development, assessment strategies, and improvement initiatives within the department.
  • Expertise in delivering engaging, student-centered lessons and showcasing exemplary teaching practices.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and mentor colleagues.
  • Experience utilizing data analysis to enhance student progress and outcomes.
  • A commitment to creating a positive, inclusive learning atmosphere and maintaining high expectations for all students.

Job Description:

  • Manage and oversee the English department across the school, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Develop, implement, and regularly evaluate a comprehensive English curriculum that aligns with the UK National Curriculum and the school's vision.
  • Monitor and evaluate teaching quality, offering coaching, mentoring, and professional development opportunities for staff.
  • Teach English in the Middle School (Key Stage 3), demonstrating exceptional classroom practices.
  • Oversee assessment, tracking, and reporting systems to monitor student progress and achievement.
  • Analyze performance data to guide strategic planning and targeted interventions.
  • Ensure consistency in planning, delivery, marking, and feedback across all key stages.
  • Promote a culture of reading, writing, and oracy throughout the school.
  • Support students' academic, social, and emotional development in alignment with the school's values.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership on initiatives aimed at whole-school improvement.
  • Maintain effective communication with parents and guardians regarding the curriculum, student progress, and well-being.
  • Lead departmental meetings, moderation sessions, and curriculum development initiatives.
  • Encourage enrichment opportunities such as debating, creative writing, public speaking, and drama activities.
  • Participate in and lead continuous professional development sessions, contributing to the ongoing growth of staff.
