Reports to: Middle School/Principal
We are seeking an outstanding and committed Deputy Head of Middle School (Key Stage 3) to focus on curriculum innovation, teaching excellence, and transition management.
This pivotal leadership role within the Middle School is designed to ensure that students experience a cohesive and well-organized curriculum, alongside consistently high standards of teaching as they navigate through Key Stage 3 and beyond.
The successful candidate will lead the strategic enhancement of Middle School programs, improve classroom practices, and ensure that transition periods, especially from Primary to Year 7 and from Year 9 to KS4, are carefully orchestrated, academically robust, and provide necessary pastoral support.
Key Focus of the Role
- Leading the design and implementation of the Middle School curriculum
- Upholding exceptional standards in teaching and learning
- Advancing assessment and feedback practices
- Facilitating smooth academic and pastoral transitions into and out of Middle School
- Ensuring continuity, progression, and readiness for future educational pursuits
Key Responsibilities (Overview)
- Managing curriculum design, evaluation, and sequencing for Years 7–9
- Supporting and encouraging teachers to enhance classroom practices
- Assessing the quality of teaching and learning while contributing to CPD
- Collaborating with Primary and Secondary staff to ensure seamless transitions
- Creating systems that promote student readiness, confidence, and academic continuity
- Assisting with transition events, induction programs, and curriculum bridging initiatives
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
- Qualified teacher status
- Proven record of high-quality classroom performance
- Experience in middle leadership roles (e.g., HOD, Phase Leader, Coordinator)
- Strong understanding of curriculum design, pedagogy, and assessment
- Background in supporting or leading teaching and learning initiatives
- Ability to work effectively across different phases and departments
- Excellent communication and organizational abilities
- Commitment to continuous professional development
Desirable Criteria
- Experience leading transition programs or cross-phase projects
- Participation in inspection or accreditation processes
- Experience in coaching or mentoring
- Background in an international or British curriculum environment
- National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership (NPQSL)
