We are seeking to appoint a skilled educator and leader for the position of Assistant Head of Secondary – Pastoral, starting in August 2025. The selected candidate will be a member of the Senior Leadership Team.
The ideal applicant will be a motivating educator, committed to elevating standards and improving student outcomes within a nurturing and collaborative setting. This role involves effectively conveying the school's vision and assisting the Head of Secondary with strategic leadership as well as the daily pastoral management of the institution. Responsibilities will include formulating policies aimed at achieving these goals and managing staff and resources accordingly. The successful candidate will contribute their expertise in teaching, leadership, and professional development, helping maintain our status as an Apple Distinguished School.
Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree accompanied by a Master’s in Educational Leadership & Management or NPSL.
- Fully qualified teacher status with BEd, MEd, PGCE, QTS, or an equivalent qualification.
- A minimum of 5 years of teaching experience, including at least 3 years in a middle leadership capacity.
- A dedicated professional focused on enhancing standards in alignment with the school's vision, mission, and values.
- Exceptional practitioners and leaders capable of fostering innovative practices within the teaching team based on current pedagogy and progressive initiatives.
- Individuals with a genuine eagerness to learn, engage with, and be active in the school's Professional Learning Community.
- Proficient in utilizing digital tools to enrich learning experiences in line with the school’s ‘Apple Distinguished School’ designation.

- Oversee the daily management of all aspects of the school’s pastoral life.
- Maintain accountability for student attendance and punctuality.
- Lead the recognition and celebration of student successes.
- Act as the designated safeguarding lead, overseeing all safeguarding matters in the secondary sector.
- Foster and sustain strong, positive, and professional relationships by maintaining open and frequent communication with all stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with relevant school policies, particularly those related to pastoral care.
- Participate in both internal and external evaluation processes.
- Lead the Arcadia Personal Development Programme.
- Manage the collection and analysis of pastoral data from PASS/Komodo and wellbeing metrics.
- Supervise outdoor education and trip arrangements.
- Monitor academic performance across year groups in collaboration with Heads of Year.
- Provide leadership and quality assurance for school-wide and year group assemblies.
- Promote professional standards for staff regarding appearance and conduct.
- Coordinate with Primary for the transition from Year 6 to Year 7.
- Serve as the secondary Fire Officer.
- Lead initiatives focused on the wellbeing of both staff and students.
