About This Role

Reports to: Subject Leader of Drama

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will teach Drama to students in Years 7-13 (including IGCSE and IBDP) and Music to Years 7-9. They will also create opportunities for Drama and Music beyond the classroom and play a vital role in the extra-curricular program. Additionally, the individual will serve as a form tutor within BST’s vertical pastoral framework.

The Drama and Music Departments

At BST, the Drama and Music departments are well-established and operate independently, each led by two dedicated full-time specialist educators. Both departments are located in a newly redeveloped area designed to foster high-quality teaching, rehearsal, and performance. The Key Stage 3 curriculum for both subjects is internally designed to establish a strong foundation for students as they progress to Key Stages 4 and 5. At the examination level, students undertake the Cambridge IGCSE in Drama and Music, followed by the IBDP, which offers both Theatre and Music at Standard and Higher Levels. The co-curricular program is a significant strength of the school, with Drama and Music taking center stage in various productions, concerts, and performance opportunities. Students consistently achieve strong results in external examinations, with many graduates proceeding to prestigious drama schools and music institutions in the UK and abroad.

This position is ideal for an enthusiastic educator with a deep passion for Drama and Music, who appreciates the value of effective, evidence-based teaching strategies, possesses extensive subject knowledge to challenge all learners, and has experience working with mixed ability classes. We are looking for a supportive colleague who is collaborative, reflective, and ready to go the extra mile. A strong dedication to extracurricular Drama and Music activities, including performances and clubs before and after school, is a key expectation of this role.
