About This Role

Epsom College Malaysia is in search of a fully qualified and seasoned Physical Education teacher to implement a diverse and engaging sports curriculum across all Key Stages. This position encompasses the design and delivery of PE, Games, and swimming sessions, coaching teams, and facilitating fixtures as well as large tournaments. The ideal candidate will also play an active role in a wide range of co-curricular clubs before and after school. There is potential for specialization in a particular sport, depending on departmental needs, alongside the opportunity to teach across the school, mentor students, manage local, Kuala Lumpur, and international fixtures, and share best practices.

Candidates interested in taking on the role of Head of Department will be given preference for the Head of PE position.

Academic Responsibilities


Curriculum Delivery: Execute the PE curriculum for all year groups, with experience in both PE and academic PE, ensuring a consistent and high-caliber learning experience for students throughout the School.


Multi-Sport Expertise: Showcase outstanding skills and coaching ability across a wide range of sports, including but not limited to Basketball, Volleyball, Netball, Badminton, Hockey, Football, Cricket, Swimming, and (Touch) Rugby. You will be expected to engage effectively and coach in different sports within the school’s extensive sports program.


Teaching Excellence: Exhibit teaching excellence by utilizing innovative, student-centered instructional methods that nurture a passion for PE, sport, and physical activity.


Student Engagement: Actively involve students in sports activities, promoting participation, decision-making, tactical awareness, skill enhancement, and a dedication to a healthy, active lifestyle.


Inclusive Teaching: Create an inclusive learning atmosphere that caters to students of varying abilities, ensuring all students can thrive and enjoy sports.


Collaboration: Work collaboratively with colleagues in the PE department and the wider school community to share best practices, contribute to curriculum development, and assist in planning, organizing, and executing sports events.


Classroom Management: Maintain discipline and order among all students in accordance with the school’s behavior policy. Ensure a tidy and organized workspace.


Assessment and Progress Tracking: Utilize effective assessment methods and tracking tools to monitor and assess student progress in sports, providing constructive feedback to aid their development.


Co-curricular Involvement: Participate in co-curricular sports activities, including coaching and coordinating teams for competitions, thereby enhancing the sports culture within the school. Actively engage in Saturday Sports activities, especially during weekends without fixtures, focusing on squad/team development, which may involve organizing internal tournaments or leading training sessions.


Health and Safety: Ensure the safety and well-being of students during PE and sports activities by adhering to established safety protocols and maintaining a secure environment.


Continuous Professional Development: Participate in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) opportunities to remain updated on current trends, coaching techniques, and advancements in sports education.


Parent Communication: Foster effective communication with parents, providing updates on students' progress and upcoming sports events, while encouraging positive involvement in their children's sports education. Write comprehensive reports on students’ performance, offering insights into their achievements and areas for growth, aligning with current teaching practices and educational innovations.


Fixtures: Engage in midweek and occasional Saturday fixtures, demonstrating a commitment to supporting and coaching students during sports competitions outside regular school hours.


Flexibility: Show adaptability by covering lessons within the department during planned staff absences and emergencies. Additionally, be prepared to coach teams beyond the usual scope based on the evolving demands of the department and specific sporting events.


Sporting Residential Involvement: Attend sporting residential events as required, actively participating in and supervising sports-related activities, including overnight stays when necessary, to ensure student well-being and supervision during extended sports programs.


Professional Duties and Responsibilities: Carry out professional duties and responsibilities as outlined by the school, actively contributing to whole school events to promote a collaborative and cohesive school community.


Meetings: Attend regular departmental meetings to contribute to curriculum planning and improvement initiatives.

Essential Skills and Abilities


A strong honours degree


An accredited teaching qualification


Demonstrated evidence of being or having the potential to be an excellent teacher


Native speaker level of English in all forms of communication


The ability to inspire and motivate students


A willingness and capability to significantly contribute to the co-curricular life of the School


An ability to build positive relationships with colleagues, students, and parents


Approachability, accessibility, and flexibility


Strong organizational and communication skills


Alignment with the values and needs of working in a boarding environment

Desirable Criteria


Experience in a boarding school setting


Experience teaching in Pre-Prep, Prep, and Senior School environments


High levels of proficiency in a variety of traditional British sports


Coaching and/or officiating qualifications in at least one major sport

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
