About Citizens School

At Citizens School, we are transforming the educational landscape through our innovative approach, empowering learners with our unique vision to "Inspire, Empower, Thrive." Our foundational values and distinct methodology center around four key pillars: fostering entrepreneurial mindsets, embracing inquiry-based learning, encouraging transdisciplinary project-based learning, and ensuring that every learner is recognized and appreciated as an individual. We are committed to equipping students for future challenges by incorporating real-world applications into all subjects and fostering exploration and growth in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Role Overview

We are on the lookout for a remarkable French Secondary Mentor who will reshape the way modern languages are taught. This position encompasses much more than just teaching grammar and vocabulary; you will elevate French to a dynamic language that facilitates discussions on global issues, idea pitching, cross-cultural collaboration, and personal confidence building.

In this position, you will develop a forward-thinking French curriculum from lower secondary through iGCSE and beyond, ensuring it aligns with British curriculum outcomes, IB-style inquiry methods, and KHDA quality standards for teaching, learning, and assessment.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Curriculum Design & Innovation

- Collaborate to create and deliver a comprehensive, engaging French curriculum that meets iGCSE standards and complements Citizens’ entrepreneurial framework.
- Ensure advancement in listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, with a specific emphasis on oracy and authentic communication.
- Weave in cultural, social, and global contexts that resonate with UAE values and foster international awareness.
- Tailor learning experiences to accommodate diverse needs, partnering closely with the Inclusion team to guarantee access for all students.
- Develop meaningful assessments to monitor progress, provide feedback, and guide interventions.

2. Inquiry-Based Language Learning

- Incorporate inquiry-driven methods where students utilize French to formulate questions, explore various viewpoints, and tackle challenges.
- Shift the focus from mere transactional language acquisition to meaningful communication, debate, storytelling, negotiation, and persuasion.

3. Project-Based & Transdisciplinary Learning

- Spearhead and engage in transdisciplinary projects that connect French with areas such as business, sustainability, humanities, and global citizenship.
- Assist learners in applying French in practical scenarios: enterprise projects, cultural exchanges, media initiatives, and performances.

4. Personalised Learner Experience

- Embody the Citizens principle of “Everyone known and known well.”
- Cultivate strong relationships that facilitate individualized goal-setting, confidence enhancement, and student ownership of their learning.
- Support learners’ academic, linguistic, and personal growth.

5. Team Contribution & Professional Culture

- Contribute actively to a high-performing team with a solutions-oriented, growth-focused mindset.
- Collaborate to ensure alignment of practices, moderate standards, and continuously enhance educational offerings.
- Engage in and, when necessary, lead effective and purposeful meetings with clarity and influence.

Qualifications and Skills

- Expertise in the French language.
- Demonstrable experience in delivering iGCSE French or equivalent.
- Solid understanding of inquiry-based and project-based teaching methodologies.
- Dedication to inclusive, personalized learning approaches.
- Bachelor’s degree in French, Languages, or a related discipline.
- Valid teaching qualification with at least two years of experience.
- High digital literacy and proficiency in using technology to enrich learning experiences.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication abilities.
