The Role – Job Description

Role Purpose

The Teacher of Business and Economics is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction across Key Stages Three, Four, and, when necessary, Key Stage Five.

This position focuses on developing strong subject expertise, enhancing analytical skills, and promoting practical applications of knowledge, ensuring that students achieve outstanding results and are well-prepared for future educational and career opportunities. The appointed individual will help foster a culture of high expectations, consistency, and continuous improvement that aligns with the overall objectives of the school.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning
  • Provide engaging and well-structured lessons in Business and Economics that promote significant progress for all learners.
  • Develop sequential lessons that are rich in content and aligned with curriculum and examination requirements.
  • Set high standards in teaching, ensuring that advanced learners are suitably challenged while also offering necessary support to others.
  • Utilize assessments effectively to inform lesson planning and adapt teaching strategies in real time.
  • Demonstrate and insist on the precise use of subject-specific terminology.
  • Promote critical thinking, evaluation, and the application of concepts to real-world business and economic situations.
Curriculum and Assessment
  • Engage in the development and assessment of the Business and Economics curriculum.
  • Ensure that curriculum schemes align with examination standards and encourage knowledge and skill progression.
  • Assign relevant homework that aids in the reinforcement of learning and prepares students for examinations.
  • Prepare students thoroughly for internal assessments, mock exams, and external evaluations.
  • Analyze assessment data and contribute to the department's quality assurance and intervention strategies.
Classroom Culture and Conduct
  • Establish a calm and focused learning environment with high standards for behavior and engagement.
  • Consistently and professionally implement behavior management systems.
  • Foster positive and respectful relationships with students.
  • Use praise and constructive feedback to motivate and challenge students.
Wider Professional Responsibilities
  • Make positive contributions to the initiatives of the Social Sciences department.
  • Participate actively in professional development, coaching, and performance evaluation processes.
  • Maintain effective communication with parents regarding student progress and achievements.
  • Support enrichment activities, excursions, or extracurricular opportunities related to Business and Economics.
  • Uphold safeguarding responsibilities and advocate for the well-being of students.

Person Specification

Essential
  • Recognized teaching qualification.
  • A degree or strong subject knowledge in Business, Economics, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching Business and/or Economics at the GCSE or IGCSE level.
  • Strong subject knowledge and understanding of examination requirements.
  • High expectations for student achievement and behavior.
  • Ability to use assessment and data to inform teaching.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Desirable
  • Experience teaching A Level or equivalent post-16 courses.
  • Familiarity with an international or British curriculum.
