About the Academic English Pathway
The Academic English Pathway (AEP) is a focused, immersive program designed for non-native English speakers in Years 5–8 (Ages 10–14).
This comprehensive year-long initiative equips students with essential English language skills, academic competencies, and subject knowledge, facilitating a smooth transition into mainstream classes. The curriculum is developed by the AEP Curriculum Committee to align with AISM’s educational goals.
Who We Are Seeking
We are in search of a dedicated, student-centered educator who is passionate about teaching Language and Literature as well as Humanities to English language learners. You will implement curriculum content through a content-based language instruction approach, enhancing students’ academic English proficiency alongside these subjects. Furthermore, you will teach critical English acquisition skills (Grammar, Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking) as part of the broader AEP team.
You are a collaborative and adaptable educator committed to the program's intensive nature. Acknowledging that language acquisition is a shared duty among all teachers, you employ innovative, inquiry-based strategies to make content accessible to learners with varied proficiency levels. Job Overview
The Language and Literature / Humanities Instructor is a reflective practitioner who employs content-based language instruction techniques to create engaging learning environments that motivate and challenge every learner, enhancing both their academic English capabilities and subject knowledge. The instructor will teach Language and Literature and Humanities, co-facilitate core English skills across the AEP, and act as a Staff Mentor for a specific group of students.
Key Responsibilities
The Language and Literature / Humanities Instructor will:
- Deliver engaging and well-structured lessons in Language and Literature and Humanities that integrate English language development throughout.
- Apply the AEP content-based language instruction model, tailoring it to meet varying English proficiency levels and learning needs.
- Develop students’ reading comprehension, analytical writing, literary response, and critical thinking skills using age-appropriate texts and resources.
- Teach Humanities topics (e.g., History, Geography, Social Studies) using scaffolded, language-rich instructional strategies that enhance both content understanding and academic English.
- Ensure thorough understanding and implementation of the approved AEP curriculum within their teaching areas.
- Create, collect, assess, return, and file evaluations, tests, and examinations to a high standard of quality.
- Collaborate with designated students to monitor and support their progress according to individual learning goals.
- Ensure timely and high-quality completion of student reports and progress updates.
- Stay updated on curriculum developments and issues related to Language and Literature, Humanities, and EAL pedagogy.
- Work closely with the AEP Program Leader to uphold high standards in curriculum delivery.
