Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Foster and uphold the ethos and standards of excellence as outlined in the GEMS Core Values.
  • Deliver the prescribed curriculum by demonstrating comprehensive and current knowledge of the subject matter.
  • Design and implement engaging lessons that inspire students, utilizing suitable materials and a classroom environment that accommodates various learning styles.
  • Provide written evidence of planning and preparation upon request. Maintain organized records of curriculum and yearly plans, attendance, teaching resources, assessment strategies, and more.
  • Adhere to GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct consistently.
  • Teach assigned students according to their individual needs by employing appropriate teaching strategies that cater to diverse abilities, including late entrants, ESL students, those with lower academic performance, and gifted students.
  • Assign and evaluate work. Assess, document, and report on students' academic development, progress, and achievement, ensuring the curriculum is tailored to meet each student's needs.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in using media and technology within the classroom.
  • Support the overall progress and well-being of students while providing guidance on educational matters.
  • Communicate with external stakeholders when necessary, such as Ministry of Education officials.
  • Engage in appraisal and performance management processes, as well as Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the preparation and development of teaching materials, resources, curricula, and pastoral initiatives.
  • Participate in and lead co-curricular and extra-curricular activities within the school as appropriate. Foster positive working relationships through proactive leadership and the sharing of ideas, resources, and experiences.
  • Monitor and ensure safe and appropriate student behavior. Develop and implement strategies to promote self-discipline and address disruptive behavior.
  • Model and promote cultural awareness and understanding while instilling a passion for learning.
  • Assist in organizing school events and functions, such as inter-house competitions, concerts, school plays, and prize days.
  • Regularly communicate with parents, promoting the GEMS philosophy and core values; keep parents updated on their children's progress while maintaining confidentiality regarding student matters.
  • Demonstrate commitment and initiative beyond the standard workday when tasks demand additional effort.
  • Attend staff meetings and participate in committees as required.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by direct and indirect reporting managers or supervisors.

Skills and Qualifications / Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree in English Language
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Proficient ICT skills
  • Excellent time management abilities
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • IELTS Academic - 7.5

Experience

  • A minimum of 2 years of teaching experience in reputable schools, specifically in the subject being taught
