RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Secondary School teacher, your role will be essential in fostering a vibrant, inclusive, and inquiry-oriented learning environment. A passion for working with adolescents, a flexible mindset, and a dedication to collaboration are crucial. Key responsibilities include:

• Design and Deliver Engaging Learning Experiences
• Align teaching strategies with AIS’s Teaching Standards, Learning Principles, and Definition of High Quality Learning and Teaching.
• Develop inquiry-driven lessons that promote critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, and intercultural understanding.
• Incorporate students' interests, identities, and voices while modifying instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
• Support students in cultivating the attributes of the IB Learner Profile and applying their learning to real-world contexts.

• Foster an Inclusive and Supportive Classroom Environment
• Create a classroom culture based on belonging, respect, and high expectations.
• Use culturally responsive and restorative practices to build strong relationships and maintain a positive learning environment.
• Encourage collaboration, empathy, and shared responsibility among students.

• Support Student Well-being and Advisory
• Serve as an advisor for a group of students, aiding their academic progress, personal well-being, and growth.
• Participate in the annual week-long Eagles Learning Experience (ELE) program to facilitate experiential learning through local or overnight excursions.
• Lead or support an extracurricular activity, club, or athletic team to promote student engagement and community spirit.

• Implement Effective Assessment Practices
• Utilize a range of formative and summative assessments aligned with IB frameworks and AIS standards.
• Provide timely, specific feedback that fosters growth and self-reflection.
• Clearly communicate student progress using approved school platforms and reporting methods.

• Mentor Students in Major IB and AIS Pathway Projects
• Assist students with MYP Personal Projects, DP Extended Essays, CP Reflective Projects, or AIS Impact Diploma capstones, as assigned.
• Support students in research, inquiry, academic integrity, and goal setting.

• Collaborate Across Schools and Pathways
• Work closely with colleagues from the Buckhead and Sandy Springs campuses to ensure curricular coherence from Grades 6 to 12.
• Collaborate with Group and Subject Leaders, IB Coordinators, Heads of Year, and student support teams to establish shared learning expectations and experiences.
• Contribute to interdisciplinary planning and the integration of AIS pathways, including DP, CP, AISx, and the AIS Impact Diploma.

• Engage in Professional Learning and Continuous Improvement
• Participate in professional development opportunities that align with IB programs, AIS’s Continuous Improvement Goals, and your own professional development objectives.
• Reflect on and refine teaching practices through coaching, feedback, and collaboration.
• Uphold AIS Professional Standards in communication, teamwork, accountability, and cross-cultural engagement.

• Support Holistic Student Development
• Help students build confidence, agency, and the capacity to take meaningful action both locally and globally.
• Respect students’ linguistic, cultural, and personal identities as integral to their educational journey.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Educational Background & Professional Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent (Master’s degree preferred)
• Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience in a science classroom.
• Relevant experience in the subject area and with adolescent learners.

Specialized Skills
• Knowledge of IB teaching or concept-based instruction (preferred); IB training will be provided if necessary.
• Relevant experience in the following areas to enhance learning and student engagement:
• Ability to create engaging lessons that develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, fostering confident communicators.
• Ability to guide students in lab-based experimental learning.
• Ability to lead students in fieldwork and science-related experiential learning.
• Commitment to creating inclusive, culturally responsive learning environments that honor students’ identities and experiences.
• Willingness to learn AIS’s curriculum frameworks and assessment expectations; prior IB experience is a plus but not mandatory.
