Part-Time Teacher of High School Business Management and Economics
About This Role
UWCSEA East is looking for a Part-Time Teacher of High School Business Management and Economics, with a start date in August 2026.
The successful applicant will be part of the team responsible for delivering our customized UWCSEA Economics curriculum for Grades 9 and 10, with the possible opportunity to teach IBDP Business Management and Economics for Grades 11 and 12.
To qualify for this role, candidates must hold an internationally recognized teaching qualification and currently live in Singapore. Availability starting August 2026 is also a requirement.
Key Responsibilities
- Actively engage in the collaborative atmosphere within the Business and Economics departments, as well as across the wider High School teams.
- Create stimulating learning experiences that challenge students, address the diverse needs of learners in each classroom, and demonstrate a strong commitment to concept-based education.
- Ensure assessments foster ongoing learning by providing timely, relevant, and constructive feedback to students on both formative and summative evaluations.
- Demonstrate effective classroom management that considers the academic, social, and emotional dimensions of student learning.
- Maintain proactive communication with parents about their children's academic progress, encouraging their involvement.
It is crucial to understand that the College functions within a vibrant and dynamic environment: while there are significant rewards, teachers are also expected to commit time and engagement.
Expectations and Standards
- Comply with the UWCSEA Professional Code of Conduct and the Safeguarding Code of Conduct.
- Teach in accordance with the UWCSEA Teacher Standards.
Candidate Specifications
- A degree along with a teaching qualification is required. Experience or interest in curriculum development is advantageous.
- Prior experience teaching Business and Economics to students aged 14-16 is essential.
- Familiarity with IBDP Business Management and Economics instruction is beneficial.
- Ability to connect with students and ignite a passion for learning.
- Willingness to actively engage in the five key components of a UWCSEA education: Academic; Personal & Social Education; Service; Activities; Outdoor Education.
- A proactive approach to Professional Development, both mandated by the College and self-directed by the teacher.
- Openness to possibly leading a mentor group for High School students in Grades 9-12.
- For full-time staff, there is an expectation of an average commitment of two sessions per week in each season for Activities and/or Service, with adjustments for part-time roles in line with their working hours.
- Eager involvement in curricular Outdoor Education experiences pertinent to High School students, along with a willingness to occasionally volunteer for Outdoor Education trips during holidays.
