MYP/DP Biology Teacher

Job Purpose

a) Assume the professional responsibilities of a teacher in accordance with the institution's policies and procedures, delivering outstanding teaching and learning experiences to elevate achievement levels for every student.

Role and Responsibilities

Lesson Planning, Teaching and Learning

Provide exceptional teaching and learning experiences that align with the school’s Teaching and Learning Policy by:

• Establishing a learning environment that promotes engagement, curiosity, and excellence;
• Clearly defining and communicating learning objectives and success criteria;
• Identifying students with SEN, EAL, and G&T needs and ensuring their requirements are met through tailored differentiation and personalized learning;
• Delivering well-structured lessons and activities that maintain momentum, challenge students, and keep them engaged;
• Effectively using assessment for learning to inform planning and monitor student progress;
• Utilizing performance data and key indicators to deliver targeted, differentiated instruction;
• Integrating technology in meaningful ways to enhance student learning and progress;
• Maintaining discipline in accordance with the school’s Behaviour for Learning Policy, encouraging positive practices relating to punctuality, conduct, uniform, quality of work, and homework.

Assessment, Recording and Reporting

• Evaluate the extent to which learning objectives have been achieved and use findings to enhance teaching and learning;
• Regularly assess students’ work and establish progress targets in line with the school’s Marking and Feedback Policy;
• Methodically assess, record, and track student progress, using data to guide planning and support achievements;
• Prepare and deliver clear, informative reports to parents following reporting guidelines;
• Actively participate in events involving parents and students.

Curriculum Development

• Contribute to the enhancement of IB and subject areas by designing, reviewing, and updating innovative and engaging curriculum plans and units of study;
• Remain updated on current subject knowledge through professional development and continued reading.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

• Serve as a DP Extended Essay Supervisor, MYP Personal Project Supervisor, or PYP Exhibition Supervisor as required;
• For Upper School, fulfill the role of an Advisor and assist in implementing the Moral Education programme;
• Participate in staff duty schedules and provide coverage for absent colleagues;
• Supervise or proctor examinations and assessments as needed;
• Engage in relevant training and professional development related to the role;
• Support school events, activities, and the ECA programme;
• Foster collaboration and support among all stakeholders;
• Consistently demonstrate professionalism and uphold high professional standards;
• Carry out any other reasonable duties or additional hours as requested by the Head of School.

Person Specification

The ideal applicant will demonstrate:

• A strong commitment to and passion for IB education and teaching;
• Extensive experience in teaching Science, with specific experience in IB MYP Science and DP Biology being highly preferred.
