Position Overview
Westlink International School in Hanoi is seeking a dedicated, knowledgeable, and student-centered IB Individuals & Societies (I&S) Teacher to join our Secondary team. As a full International Baccalaureate continuum institution authorized through the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and currently a candidate for the Diploma Programme (DP), we are looking for an educator who can enrich our secondary humanities curriculum.
The ideal applicant will deliver outstanding instruction within the IB framework, focusing primarily on the MYP and, as we transition into the Diploma Programme, the DP. This teacher will foster conceptual understanding, inquiry, and critical thinking while creating a dynamic and inclusive classroom environment that supports the success of all students.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Curriculum Planning and Delivery
- Design, prepare, and deliver captivating and challenging Individuals & Societies lessons that meet IB MYP and DP standards.
- Teach across the secondary spectrum, addressing MYP and future DP subjects as needed (e.g., Individuals & Societies areas such as Geography, History, Economics, or related humanities fields).
- Develop inquiry-based, concept-driven learning experiences that connect social sciences and humanities to real-world contexts and global challenges.
- Differentiating teaching methods to cater to the diverse needs, abilities, and language backgrounds of students.
- Incorporate Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills and promote global contexts within lessons.
Assessment and Feedback
- Create and implement formative and summative assessments that align with IB criteria and standards.
- Use assessment data to inform planning and support student progress.
- Provide timely, specific, and constructive feedback to facilitate reflection and growth.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance and engage in reporting processes.
Classroom Culture and Student Wellbeing
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful classroom atmosphere that encourages student voice, agency, and participation.
- Establish clear expectations for behavior and learning.
- Support student wellbeing and consistently apply safeguarding practices.
Collaboration and Professional Practice
- Collaborate with colleagues to design interdisciplinary units and share best practices across the department and school.
- Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of the Individuals & Societies curriculum and assist in the school’s DP candidacy.
- Engage in reflective practices and pursue continuous professional development, including IB training.
- Participate actively in departmental, team, and school-wide initiatives.
Communication and Community Engagement
- Maintain open and effective communication with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Contribute positively to the wider school community through events, activities, and extracurricular programs.
- Build strong partnerships within the school community.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in Humanities, Social Sciences, Geography, History, or a related field.
- Recognized teaching qualification/certification.
- Experience in teaching secondary Individuals & Societies or humanities courses.
- Strong grasp of IB philosophy and inquiry-based pedagogy.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to inclusive, student-centered educational practices.
Desirable
- Experience teaching within the IB MYP and/or DP.
- Experience in teaching Diploma-level subjects such as History, Geography, Economics, Global Politics, or Environmental Systems and Societies.
