About This Role
GEMS American Academy in Qatar is seeking a dedicated and skilled individual to become part of our Middle/High School team. The start date for this position is 01 August 2026.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Uphold and promote the ethos and standards of excellence as outlined in the GEMS Core Values.
- Deliver the prescribed curriculum with a thorough and current understanding of the subject matter.
- Design and implement engaging lessons that inspire students.
- Create and utilize suitable resources and classroom settings that accommodate various learning styles.
- Provide written evidence of lesson planning and preparation upon request.
- Maintain comprehensive records of curriculum and yearly plans, attendance, teaching materials, assessment strategies, etc.
- Adhere to GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct consistently.
- Teach assigned students according to their specific needs, employing appropriate teaching methodologies for diverse learners, including late entrants, ESL students, those with lower academic abilities, and gifted and talented individuals.
- Assign and grade student work.
- Evaluate, document, and report on students' academic progress and achievements, using assessments to tailor the curriculum to individual student requirements.
- Demonstrate proficiency in integrating media and technology into the classroom.
- Support the overall progress and well-being of students, offering guidance on educational issues.
- Communicate with external stakeholders when necessary (e.g., Ministry of Education representatives).
- Engage in performance appraisals and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities.
- Collaborate with colleagues in the creation and development of teaching materials, resources, curricula, and pastoral care initiatives.
- Participate in and, when appropriate, lead co-curricular and extra-curricular programs within the school.
- Foster positive working relationships through proactive leadership and the sharing of ideas, resources, and experiences.
- Monitor and supervise student behavior to ensure safety and appropriateness.
- Develop and execute strategies to promote self-discipline and manage disruptive behavior.
- Model and encourage cultural sensitivity and appreciation while fostering a love for learning.
- Assist in organizing school events and activities (e.g., inter-house competitions, concerts, school plays, award ceremonies, etc.).
- Communicate regularly with parents, promoting the GEMS philosophy and core values, while keeping them informed about their children's progress and maintaining student confidentiality.
- Demonstrate commitment by putting in extra effort beyond standard working hours when required.
- Attend staff meetings and participate in committees as needed.
- Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned by direct and indirect reporting line managers or supervisors.
