About This Role
GEMS American Academy in Qatar is on the lookout for a passionate and qualified Lower Elementary Teacher (KG-GR2) to join our Elementary Education team.
The expected start date for this role is August 2026.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Promote and uphold the ethos and standards of excellence as defined by the GEMS Core Values.
- Implement the designated curriculum, showcasing extensive and up-to-date knowledge of the subject area.
- Create and deliver captivating lessons that motivate students. Develop and apply appropriate materials while fostering a classroom atmosphere that supports various learning styles.
- Provide written documentation of lesson planning and preparation upon request. Keep comprehensive records of curriculum plans, attendance, instructional resources, assessment techniques, and more.
- Consistently follow GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct.
- Teach assigned students according to their individual needs, utilizing effective instructional methods tailored to diverse abilities, including late entrants, ESL learners, and students with varying academic strengths.
- Assign and evaluate student work. Assess, document, and communicate students' academic development, using assessments to adapt the curriculum to meet individual student needs.
- Demonstrate adeptness in effectively utilizing media and technology within the classroom.
- Support the overall development and well-being of students, providing guidance on educational matters.
- Engage with external stakeholders as necessary (e.g., representatives from the Ministry of Education).
- Participate in appraisal and Performance Management processes, alongside Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to prepare and develop teaching materials, resources, curricula, and pastoral support.
- Participate in, and lead when appropriate, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities within the school, nurturing positive relationships through effective leadership and the sharing of ideas, resources, and experiences.
- Supervise and manage student behavior to ensure safety and appropriateness. Develop and implement strategies to encourage self-discipline and address disruptive behavior.
- Promote cultural awareness and understanding, igniting a passion for learning.
- Assist in planning and organizing school events and activities (e.g., inter-house competitions, concerts, school plays, award ceremonies, etc.).
- Maintain regular communication with parents, advocating for the GEMS philosophy and core values; keep them informed about their children's progress while ensuring confidentiality.
- Exhibit initiative and commitment beyond regular working hours when additional effort is required.
- Attend staff meetings and engage in committees as necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned by direct and dotted line managers/supervisors.
Successful candidates must:
- Demonstrate and embody the core values of respect, innovation, leadership, purpose, and tenacity.
- Hold a B.Ed or Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Elementary Education) along with a PGCE/PGDE or equivalent Level 5 teaching qualification.
- Show knowledge of ICT applications in schools to enhance teaching and learning experiences.
- Be a dedicated educator with strong subject knowledge in the relevant area and a commitment to teaching and learning.
- Possess excellent communication skills, capable of fostering strong relationships with students and colleagues while contributing to the wider school community.
- Have at least 2 years of teaching experience in the relevant subject area or age group.
