The Opportunity:
We are seeking a Latin and Civics Teacher to join our Senior School on a part-time contract for the academic year 2026-27. In our community that prioritizes social-emotional learning, the ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional communication skills and the ability to forge meaningful connections with students and colleagues. This position falls under both the Modern and Classical Languages Department and the Individuals and Societies Department, reporting to the Instructional Leader, Individuals and Societies. This role is available due to an existing vacancy, with a start date anticipated for August 2026.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Fostering an inspiring classroom atmosphere that encourages learning and personal growth through a social-emotional learning approach.
- Motivating students to develop the skills, knowledge, and attitudes essential for their educational journey, tailored to their unique abilities.
- Instilling a love for language and literature among students.
- Equipping students with a thorough understanding of the history and development of government in Canada.
- Cultivating positive relationships with parents, faculty, and staff members.
- Collaborating with the Learning Strategies team to effectively support all students in their academic and social-emotional growth.
- Ensuring that the curriculum aligns with IB and Ministry of Education standards while allowing for differentiation.
- Designing culturally relevant, inclusive, and responsive Latin and Civics curricula for diverse learners.
- Promoting interdisciplinary understanding through collaborative inquiry units with faculty across various subject areas.
- Developing course outlines, unit plans, and lesson plans that integrate the IB Middle Years Program and Diploma Program curricula, emphasizing inquiry and interdisciplinary learning.
- Maintaining accurate records as required by the Ministry, IBO, and school policies.
- Regularly updating students, parents, and colleagues on student progress, including through formal report cards and parent-teacher meetings.
- Staying informed about best practices in the subject area and teaching methodologies through professional reading, workshops, and professional development opportunities.
- Actively participating in faculty and departmental meetings while collaborating with course teams to plan, review, and enhance the written curriculum.
- Engaging in co-curricular activities and supervision responsibilities.
- Offering additional support to students outside of regular class hours.
- Acting as an Advisor, mentoring students and meeting with them regularly.

Candidate Profile:
- A Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution with a focus on Latin and/or History.
- Ontario College of Teachers certification or equivalent, with Intermediate/Senior qualifications in Classical Studies (Latin) and/or History.
- Experience with IB and inquiry-based teaching is highly beneficial.
- Strong abilities in curriculum development and assessment practices that are appropriate for the developmental stage of students.
- A relational educator who incorporates Social-Emotional Learning and emotional coaching strategies into their teaching.
- Commitment to integrating diversity, equity, and inclusion principles into curriculum design.
- A willingness to embrace innovation and work collaboratively.
- Familiarity with relevant technology and an ability to operate effectively in a digital environment.
- Proficient in delivering educational programs electronically and engaging with students, parents, colleagues, and the broader community through digital communication.
- A belief in and alignment with the mission, vision, and values of Branksome Hall: passionate about education and service to students and the community.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Capable of working independently with minimal supervision while also being an effective team member.

Target Hiring Range:
Placement on the Branksome Hall Faculty Salary Grid is based on years of relevant teaching experience, educational qualifications, and Additional Qualifications (AQs). The grid ranges from $70,903.08 to $101,270.67 for up to 6 years of applicable experience, and $101,615.33 to $134,998.82 for over 6 years of applicable experience.
